30 for 30: Michael Vick (1 Viewer)

Ok I'll bite.

Who has done far worse and have been forgiven easier than Vick?
Ok I'll bite. I can post a dozen or more truly inspiring acts of forgiveness, yet this one had resonated the most for me...
One by one, those who chose to speak at a bond hearing did not turn to anger. Instead, while he remained impassive, they offered him forgiveness and said they were praying for his soul, even as they described the pain of their losses.
“I forgive you,” Nadine Collier, the daughter of 70-year-old Ethel Lance, said at the hearing, her voice breaking with emotion. “You took something very precious from me. I will never talk to her again. I will never, ever hold her again. But I forgive you. And have mercy on your soul.”

I understand that perpetrators of mass killings will be served the ultimate justice, yet who are you people to keep your knees on someone's neck after victims of far worse acts would so readily offer forgiveness?

That's why I can't take the outrage against Vick seriously. There are cultures in this country that shoot and kill animals for sport. They take pictures, smiling with their little kids next to dead animals. There is a dedicated "season" for it. Stores that sell paraphernalia to help them kill ducks and deers and whatever else they wanna blow a hole in. The selective outrage is amusing.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried really hard to be wrong.

I am a hunter and if I shoot an animal there's a really good chance that it will go into my freezer before eventually making its way to my dinner table. There is a huge difference between sport hunters and people who hunt for food.

Your selective ignorance on the matter is pretty amusing though.

You hunt for food. Because what else is there to eat if not the rump of a deer. As if you have to rely on wild animals for sustenance.

In America, hunting is a sport. It doesn't matter that you consume what you kill. You didn't kill it out of necessity. You hunt because you want to. Because you see nothing wrong it. Because it serves a purpose for you. Because it fulfills something in you.

You're not different. You don't have extenuating circumstances compelling you to hunt.

And don't tell me you're shipwrecked on survivor island with only a gun, a freezer and no boat.

You've got options that don't involve hunting. But you like hunting and so you hunt. Vick (for reasons still unbeknownst to me) liked watching dogs fight, then killed the ones who performed poorly. If only he had chosen to eat them instead.

It's not my place to forgive or not.

From what I've observed (living in Philly) he recognizes that what he used to do was hideous, and he's tried to make amends, like so many others who either didn't understand society's rules or didn't care, but learned better, either the easy way or the hard. He's served his time and from everything I have read (I did use that internet thingy) it seems that he is spending real personal time trying to help animals now.

Whether it's genuine remorse or just PR I am not sure, but....at this point I am not sure what good the PR would do him, it's not like he'll ever get any more endorsement deals.

Andy Reid, who is the ultimate players' coach, gave him a second chance when he didn't need a starting QB. My gut is that Vick's change is genuine, and that's good enough for me. Peace out.

Just finished reading Marty Smith's book (ESPN personality) "Never Settle". He had a chapter devoted to an interview he did with Michael Vick. It was an excellent read and while I despise what Vick was punished for, I do feel that his attempt at owning up to his mistakes and seeking forgiveness for his misdeeds appears to be genuine .

Unless you're vegan you have no argument.

Some of you are very judgmental and have very close minds but that's okay because that's the way we were are raised its part of our culture. I been all over the world and something like this happens everywhere. cork fighting, dog fighting, bull fighting, fishing, hunting, etc. Some of you will be riding around looking for prostitutes blind to the fact they might be doing that against there will...but your okay with it that because it's pretty normal. Look at Robert Kraft he is owner of a NFL. Hell look at NFL, Boxing or MMA. why do you watch those? You know the long term damage done to those individuals but most don't care because it's entertainment.

Yes, if Vick didn't get into trouble he more than likely would of never seen anything wrong with it. Most people didn't care but they made an example of him. Vick came back a better person and looks to have learned from his mistakes. I was never a fan of Vick, but I can accept the fact he appears to be a changed man and a man should be judge on who he is today not who he was.

1. Just because it happens in other countries does not make it legal.

2. I dont agree with prostitution not ha e I ever contributed to a prostitute.

3. I watch sports because it is entertainment like you said. The difference is the athletes I watch choose to participate in team sports. Those dogs didnt have a choice. They were tortured, burned and electrocuted against their will.

4. Maybe he is a better person maybe he isnt. You cant watch an interview and know a person's mind.

5. A pedophile may choose to mo longer rape children but he is still a pedophile. You may consider it to be a different crime and abusing animals is not the same thing. That's ok, it's your value system, but you dont get to judge me because I have different values than you.

Hunters contribute billions of dollars to nature. I hunt goose, squirrel, rabbit, duck, deer, turkey etc. I kill quickly and efficiently. I dont hold the animal down and torture it. Without hunters animals would over populate. There would be deer starving. Again am I killing an animal? Yes. I dont take questionable shots. I dont light them on fire or electrocute them and watch them suffer in torment while I watch and laugh. Vick is a piece of garbage. I dont care if he feels bad because he got caught and cant do those things any more.

Look if this guy has changed his life so be it. Good for him. It doesnt mean I have to gush about what a great human is. He is who he is and its between him and which ever god he chooses to worship. My decision to not care about him does not effect him in the slightest. He will move on in life and my feelings wont impact him in the slightest. My foot is not on his neck.

There's a world of difference between hunting and eating what you shoot and dog fighting. I don't go out into the woods and put two deer or squirrels or rabbits against each other in a fight to the death.

When I harvest an animal it is done as quickly and humanely as possible. You can't say the same thing about dog fighting.

There are no laws against hunting and again the same can't be said about dog fighting. I have never killed in excess of 100 animals and then just discarded and buried the carcasses like Vick did. When his property was raided and they found the dead animals they stopped counting at something like 115 dead dogs.

The only reason that Vick has become this "better person" that people seem to think he has become is because he got caught.......................plain and simple!!

You need there to be "a world of difference" between the two
so you can remain self-righteous. In the end, the animals are dead and unlike Vick, you ingest the animals.

But in your head, you are 100% justified. It's funny how we can always find ways to justify what WE want to do. How we can always find ways to make ourselves "right." But I don't see what you do as anymore necessary or more legitimate than dog fighting.

I don't see how you can be 100% ok with one and completely "outraged" by the other. Being hypocritical has always gone hand-in-hand with self-righteousness.

Blah, blah, blah I know. You are justified. See my response above.

LOL there is no discussion here. You make the comparison of hunters vs a man who electrocuted, burned and drowned dogs, not just 1 or 2 but over a hundred, for his enjoyment of watching them die. Forgive him all you want. He is an animal. He is an abuser. He does not deserve my adulation or respect.

Stop lying. No need to exaggerate what he did or why he did it in order to prop up your own actions.
