Though we’re trying to inch back to such a time we aren’t anywhere close to police dogs and water cannons and beatings or even assassinations being the expected outcome of asking for equal rights

We can walk and chew gum at the same time though. Progress is progress wherever we can find it.

There are a lot of political people that wouldn’t get the disdain that Rush gets. I tend to think it’s less about politics and more to do with him being a shirt person.

I think it's more longevity and breadth of influence than him just being a crappy person for the most part. Few politicians have been the lightning rod he's been for as long as he has.

We wouldn’t be talking about him if he was my crazy uncle.

Indeed, unless he's your crazy uncle. :hihi:

But seriously, the reasoning behind my statement is that there are millions of shirt people out there. What makes Rush unique is his longevity and reach more than his shirt personality. I've never listened to his radio show, but I did watch a few episodes when he had his tv show many moons ago.

While true
How does this continue the line of this discussion

Because Semper was rimenencing the loss of respect people had for one another. We can do that still, while at the same time not inch back to the injustices that went on back then. In other words, treat people as we'd want to be treated and be aware of the injustices that continue to this day.

We are not talking about much of the world's population.

Well sure, but Rush not practicing the rule isn't what sets him apart as I explained earlier in the thread. Hardly unique to him. I've never been a fan of his. People get worked up over him for obvious reasons, but a lot of it seems over the top to me.

It's like hearing your mom say well if half the world's population jumped off a bridge...

Of course half the world's population isn't gonna do that. But, a sizable, far larger number of people don't practice the golden rule. All I'm saying is that it's hardly a unique trait.

And I’m saying y’all are arguing your history backwards
The time that you say Semper is reminiscing about did not exist
When was this time time when people were more respectful about contrary philosophies and we did unto others from different tribes?
Is civility great no? Heck no?
Was it better ack then? Hella heck no

And I’m pretty sure the engine of our incivility now is that some people are being ‘strongly encouraged ‘ to be civil to a broader swath of people than they ever have before and they resent that allbto pieces
