NFL Draft 2020 NFL Draft Prospects (1 Viewer)

You don't think Anthony Gordon is at least worth a Draft pick?

I would put Gordon in the same tier with Fromm maybe slightly lower, in that he has a solid floor. Could be a game manager type QB, he has some confidence and poise and experience throwing the ball at high volume attempts. He has shown the ability to stay in and take a hit to convert a 3rd down, and has decent accuracy on short to intermediate throws.

for instance if he goes to a team like the Steelers he would instantly be a better Emergency plan than Duck Hodges, or Mason Rudolph. I honestly wouldn't even mind taking him if he's still around in the 5th round.

To me Burrow, and Tua (given healthy) are the only true "franchise" Quarterbacks in this Draft; and they should both presumably go top 3.

IMO people are way too high on Herbert... I have him with a 2nd round grade personally; but I understand Quarterbacks rise and get valued at a premium so it won't surprise me to see him go top 15. Just didn't see enough from him in big time pressure situations against good teams. He has the physical tools but was very sheltered in a bubble screen Offense, that focused on the run. I think he's going to be a Ryan Tannehill / to Andy Dalton level QB.

Jordan Love & Eason... ehh not too big on. To me they are just guys with big time arms with questionable decision making. These guys will need a lot of patient coaching and development, but some teams will fall in love with their throwing velocity.

Everyone else back-up material, developmental. Practice squad, camp arms.

To me the top 3 are all top 10 worthy.

I think Burrow is the best QB prospect, at least since I’ve invested a lot of time into watching prospects (2015). He might as well get fitted for his Bengal equipment.

Tua is an elite prospect as well IMO. As effortless a touch passer as I’ve seen. That quick release and the way he hums the ball accurately downfield is magical. He throws the ball like Russell Wilson, but I would argue that he’s able to put air under the deep ball in a way that outshines Russ. He’s not as mobile or capable outside the pocket, which is a major aspect of Wilson’s game. But man, the arm is special.

I saw a lot of what you saw from Herbert, but I actually think he was miscast in that Oregon offense. It’s a system that takes a lot of the pressure off the QB in where to go with the ball, but nothing suggests Herbert doesn’t have it between the ears to excel when more is thrown at him. His arm is great as well. I’ve seen him throw all over the field, and do it accurately. He looked at his best in the Senior Bowl, and I think that will win him a top 10 draft selection. He will probably live to that grade.

Fromm’s ceiling is limited, but he can be an average starter because he makes great decisions and has great short to intermediate accuracy. I also think the play calling and WRs for Georgia crushed him this season. Not exciting but he can definitely be a starter within the right offense.

I think Minshew Mania has won Mike Leach some favor that will turn to ashes in a short time. Not insinuating that Anthony Gordon doesn’t have some decent attributes, I just think that system makes guys look far better than they are. Minshew bucked the lack of translatable skill a bit, and maybe Gordon learns to throw with anticipation and look off defenders at the next level. I’m just skeptical.

I will admit I’m kind of interested in Nathan Rourke from Ohio. I mostly wanted to watch the passing aspects of these QBs, and when I did Rourke was top 10 in the class to me.. That was without regard for his rushing prowess, which is a lot of his game. I want to see him throw at the combine and see if he pops out.

Jordan Love had a shot to be a first round pick going into the season. Was pretty disappointing statistically, but not any worse than someone like Josh Allen in his final year at Wyoming. Love and Cole McDonald are intriguing project QBs. NFL arms for sure, I think it will come down to throwing with anticipation and decision making for both of those guys.

Absolutely

I don't have much confidence in love.

He's athletic, and has some impressive arm talent.

But, that's about it with him. He lacks all the intangibles, and other tools needed to be a QB at the next level.

Some desperate team is going to take a shot at him in the first round and I think that is way to high to pick him.

As long as it's not us, I'm okay with it

I don't think it's too farfetched of a statement considering recent trends, how the game has changed in the last 20 or so years and taking an educated guess at where it's going In the near future.

How many NFL teams currently even run a true 3-4 Defense with a massive space eating 0 - tech and Two 5 - techs that predominantly two gap with two bigger downhill Inside backers who are expected to take on blocks in between the tackles?

1-2? Belichick still runs that scheme for the most part, I guess Crennel did in Houston but their front personnel is expected to change up a bit next season.

These odd front teams are going towards the way of a Wink Martindale, or modern day Gregg Williams style fronts.. the chaotic, versatile fronts where you have Defenders lining up all over the place, in different stances on any given play to better disguise looks and confuse Offenses.

I guess to a less extreme degree Yes guys like Donta Hightower still have their place on some teams, but that style of Linebacker is becoming ever more so 'less useful' in today's NFL. If you're strictly a 2 down player in today's game, can only play in one direction, and are a liability on Passing downs... you just can't justify spending a Day 1 pick on a player like that. That's why it is my belief every year you are going to start seeing the bigger 'thumper' style Linebackers from college go later, and later in the Draft. 5th, 6th, 7th rounds. The way of the future for Linebacker proto-types are the Deion Jones, Darius Leonard, Devin White, Kwon Alexander, Telvin Smith, Roquan Smith... type of players.
I get hat you're saying but Dion Jones's don't grow on trees yet and I'm pretty sure that guys like Curtis Lofton or Donta Hightower will still find a role somewhere even though they likely wont be drafted highly anymore.

Im betting that there are many desperate teams who don't have the option of a Dieon Jones who would leap at the opportunity to draft a guy like Lofton in the Middle rounds.

All I know is from what I saw Anthony Gordon outplayed Jordon Love at the Senior Bowl

Jordan Love’s arc is almost an exact retelling of Josh Allen’s out of Wyoming. Small school with a desirable arm, that won a ton of favor in his second to last college season. Fantastic arm strength, athleticism and an extremely high ceiling. He had some head scratchers in his final season, again not unlike Allen. Josh Allen was outplayed at the Senior Bowl by the likes of Kyle Lauletta and Mike White. I think once teams see him launch the ball and test at the combine, a team will fall in love with Love’s physical traits in the same way the Bills hitched themselves to Allen.

Josh Allen sucks, though.

The Kiko Alonso's and Manti Teo's of the world will always have a home as base down LB's when a team doesn't have the luxury of a 3 down LB. They'll simply look to platoon the situation...exactly what we'll have to do with Anzalone next year who has proven that we can't count on him to play all 3 down and remain healthy the entire season.

Here's a list of starting QBs who threw for sub-60% in their second year since 2010. I guess he could be Cam, but it's unlikely.

The only other QB on that list capable of rushing for 800 yards and 8 TDs per season is Cam, so I’d say he’s closer to Cam than Blaine Gabbert. He also threw for 3,100 yards and went 20:9, while leading a mediocre team to the playoffs. He did so with a crop of pass catchers highlighted by journeymen John Brown/Cole Beasley.

That yards/attempt tho. Time will tell.

I'm just not a believer in guys that can't throw at a decent completion percentage. They almost always flame out. Of anyone on this board I'm sure you've seen the correlations between completion percentage in college and NFL success.

Buffalo needs to double down on receiver within tgeir top 3 picks. Shenault Jr with sub 4.4 speed and Allen’s arm seem an ideal pairing

I don’t love Tee Higgins, especially for New Orleans, but he fits Buffalo and Josh Allen perfectly. He’s great down the field, outside the numbers and Allen can throw the ball downfield effortlessly.
