N/S: Lions looking to trade Stafford (Front office says it's not true-Mod edit) (1 Viewer)

How about it? There is rumor going around that proves to be totally false about a quarterback moving by trade.
The rumor is immediately denied by the front office.

How this can happen?

I am sure the rumor was true since it has been confirmed by a couple of sites, dying to bring traffic in this time of year where nothing happens.

Sigh.....

The Detroit Sports Radio show has been pumping this scenario for a few weeks now. Pick Tua at 3 and trade Stafford. Or, if someone trades up to #2 to take Tua... take Chase Young and keep Stafford. Whether the story is true or not, this is what's been talked about exclusively on their show lately. The hosts sound like any two of us discussing the draft/trade possibilities for the Saints, except in Detroit's case, they are in a very good position should they decide to make a change. Many of the callers supporting the 'draft Tua' idea figure this move will buy Quinn an extra couple of years with ownership. Just reporting what I've been hearing everyday.

That' s interesting. If they drafted Tua, they'd need a body to fill in the interim while he gets healthy, though. I suppose they could just trade Stafford, call 2020 a wasted season and tank for another high pick, then crank it up next year, 76ers style.

They had Blough (I think) filling in for injured Matt. Probably just roll with him.

I think the other Detroit sports teams (who are playing right now) must be pretty P'Oed they are getting zero attention....lol

Chucky isn't happy with Carr. I've been thinking that Teddy might be a target for him, but Stafford makes sense too.

Stafford to Tampa might make sense too. It would be a great spot for him with Godwin and Evans to throw to.

I'm not sure the Colts are satisfied with Brissett. That wouldn't be a bad spot either.
Stafford to the bucs would piss me off lol

GBN report says something different...

Lions deny QB trade talks … Detroit G.M. Bob Quinn is vigorously denying overnight reports that the Lions have been involved in trade talks over the past couple of weeks involving QB Matt Stafford. Quinn reportedly sent the local papers a text message this morning saying “100% False!!” although its not hard to look around the league and see teams like New England, the LA Chargers and several others that will almost certainly be in the market for a new QB withing the next few weeks. There actually have been rumblings out of Detroit literally since the end of the season that the Lions could at least think of moving on from the 32-year-old Stafford who missed extensive playing time in each of the past couple of seasons with injuries. However, if the Lions did trade Stafford they would have to absorb a $30M-plus cap hit this coming season. In addition, Stafford was having one of the best years of his career prior to being injured this fall and with the Lions in what appears to be a win now mode he’d certainly be their best option this coming season. If they did want to move on, though, the Lions would be in prime position to replace Stafford with a younger QB as they have the 3rd pick overall in this year’s draft and likely would be in position to select Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa if he continues to show that he is fully recovered from last season’s campaign-ending hip injury that required surgery. Of course, if Detroit decides to stick with Stafford, they would then be in prime position to pick up a nice package of picks in exchange for the 3rd overall selection from one of those other QB-needy teams. Stay tuned!

Man the QB landscape isn’t going to be recognizable this year.

what is the largest one year QB turnover and is it going to get blown out of the water this year

Stafford was never paired with the right coach IMO. And when they had a solid coach in Jim Caldwell they fired him. Even though he had them in the fight for playoff spots.

You just described the Saints from 1967-1986, and from 1994-1999. It happens.

The Saints were bad, but we also have to realize that from 1967-1986, a legit argument could be made that being an expansion team in that specific time period was extremely difficult. The perks expansion teams got pale in comparison to today's dynamics, and there was also no true free agency like we have today.

Again, there was a ton of mismanagement, but being an expansion team in the sixties and seventies made it darn near impossible for some teams unless they got extremely lucky.

The Bengals were good for the majority of the 2010s. They made the playoffs the same number of times that the Saints did.
