Narrative being pushed by ESPN that Teddy is $30 mil (2 Viewers)

That was the year we franchise tagged him and he "held out" I think we signed him right before training camp. There probably was some controversy surrounding it. I remember years when people were saying he should take less like Tom Brady did. I even remember a time he seemed a little upset about being asked a question regarding his contract on WWL. He basically said "That's between me and my agent and Mickey and we'll leave it at that."
So that was 2016?

His second contract with us was the time he was franchised which would've been 2012. His first contract was 2006 6 years/60. His second was the big one in 2012 5 years/100. 2016 is when he started with the short term deals. But I want to say that's the one where he got upset in the interview.

I'm going out on a limb and predict that Teddy does not get a $30 million offer. That he does not get a $20 offer either. Just too many free agents for it to be a seller's market. It's a bad year to be a FA QB.

I agree, especially with a Rivers and a Brady (highly likely) out there. Those two will set the market price for aged FA QB’s. And these two may also actually have an impact on any new salary amount Drew would get. I do not doubt for ONE second, Drew’s agent, is advising Drew well on this. We’ll se e soon enough. And I think if the market dictates such a perceived low price to Drew and his agent, it may be the catalyst that drives him into retiring.

Why would that be considered overpaying?

$30 million a year for a QB with five wins in the last four years? Why would that not be considered overpaying?

I like Teddy. Great human being. Decent football player. But let’s be real here. We didn’t win “because” of him.

The most overrated backup QB ever!!! Everybody seems to overlook how well the defense and special teams played during those five games.
A QB who had a QB rating over 100 in those 5 games with only 2 interceptions and 9 TDs is the most overrated backup ever?

What the heck?

The team surely rallied around him. It's about the market not the player. Do you think that Jimmy G is that much better than Teddy? Teddy has a better resume than Jimmy G and this is what he got (via wiki):
"signed a $137.5 million deal with the 49ers, at the time the largest contract in NFL history on an annual basis".

I most definitely think we won because of him. Everyone raised their sense of urgency because of him. As soon as Brees got back we reverted back to what we have been. The Saints were a different team because of Teddy.

If your contribution was that you made your teammates have to step up in order to compensate for you, that is not a selling point.
