"WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED ANYBODY YET?!?!" (1 Viewer)

I understand that multiple sources have now informed Swimmer to the effect that our rallying cry is now,

'WHY HAVEN'T WE TRADED UP TO #1 YET?!?!'

I believe he might hold out.
According only to some people jumping to giant conclusions on a forum, from what I've seen.

From a business perspective, holding out after an injury marred year when you haven't shown your best on the pitch would be exceptionally bad timing.

We also don’t know what role the new CBA might play regarding hold outs. I heard somewhere that there may be some changes in that regard that would penalize players more drastically for holding out.

To the thread title... Too soon. Much too soon bro.

To the OP... I'm with @TribuneUK somewhat on this. AK's stock isnt all that high at the moment. I'd think his trade value maxes out at 2nd round pick right now, and that's only if he's willing to play for the 900k or so that he's due this year. And if he's willing to do that, then there's no reason for us to trade him at all.

I figure he will at least threaten to hold out. Its gotta be hard seeing the other star skill player on your team get a record setting contract while you're still on your rookie deal making pennies by comparison. Add to this that unlike MT, AK has felt the bite of the injury bug. Whereas Thomas still feels immortal, Kamara has seen first hand how quickly you're health and therefore your production and $ value can take a nose dive.

An NFL RB's 2nd contract is generally THE contract. Few get a good 3rd deal and many don't make it past the rookie deal. A serious injury this year playing for less than 1M could put a death nail in his future earnings if not his career. I look for him to go after more money this off-season, and I figure the saints will try to meet him in the middle and get a deal done.

The problem is likely to be how far apart the two sides see his actual value. AK and his agent will see him in the rare air of Barkley, Gurley, Zeke, etc... Saints and other teams will likely see his value as the lead back in a committee who has to remain 100% healthy or else he becomes average or maybe slightly above average.

That difference is likely upwards of 5M per year. No question a health AK is one of the brightest stars and most dangerous offensive players in the league. But as far as RBs careers usually go, he's already middle age. He's in his prime right now and both sides know this. So expect a holdout.
