There have been some great threads here with detailed analysis of our salary cap and free agent situation. Regarding the details, none of us are going to have the financial expertise of Loomis, the talent evaluation of Ireland, or the strategic vision of Payton. With Brees coming back for one more year (and presumably kicking the cap-hell-can down the road again) the big picture seems relatively clear:

Re-Sign Priorities:
#1 - Bell
#2 - Klein
#3 - Onyemata

Re-Sign for Backup Money:
- Omameh
- Apple
- Williams

Just Let Walk:
all the others

Extend:
Jenkins
Hill

New Free Agents:
#1 priority - Free Safety
#2 priority - Guard
#3 priority - Wide Receiver

Draft:
(1) Trade back early and often
(2) Acquire picks for next year
(3) BPA emphasizing high-risk, high-reward types

Since we're all-in for one more year, this seems to be the way to go, right?

Fairly sure Line retired.

Free Safety is nowhere near the top FA priority, but I can see how Marcus Williams might be blotting out other considerations in your viewpoint.

FA guard(s) I can agree with.

Few inaccuracies otherwise I agree.

Zach Line is retired.

It seems like Eli Apple is going to test the market and he's looking for starter money.

Seems like the team is going to be content to just sit on Jenkins with his 11 mil cap hit for this season. It seems quite high but alas that is the going rate for starting corners. (Bouye 13.5 mil cap hit, Slay over 13 mil cap hit, James Bradberry looking for 15 mil / year)

According to the off-season reports that have come out the Saints top priorities going into free agency seem to be:

1. Off-Ball Linebacker - Jamie Collins seems to be the #1 target (appears Kiko will be a cap cut because of the ACL)
2. Offensive Guard - Peat is a Free agent, and they want more depth in case Warford's play falls off.
3. Safety - re-sign Bell is probably option #1 but will become a Must to address if he bolts for a huge deal.

Klein- not a priority
Line- retired
Apple- not a backup
Hill- look to replace soon, not extend
#1 priority Free safety- what what?!?!?!

It's not a Priority for this Off-season but what if I told you via a little birdy that was in Indy for the combine that the Saints staff is very, very interested in Grant Delpit from LSU.

They love the character, and love the 2018 tape, Payton/Allen value Interceptions, feel they have been overall lacking from the Secondary... was one of the first prospect visits by the Saints early in the morning and was told if Delpit is at 24 he will be the pick..

Ok seems like a "What the... heck!?" thing like why would the Saints prioritize drafting a Safety? Seems like they want leverage / insurance a year from now with Marcus Williams' rookie deal expiring.. if his play continues to fall off they have the Rangy Free Safety of the future to plug right in... Saints are known for Drafting guys a Year ahead... (Ram when still had Strief, MT when we had Cooks, and Snead.. so on so forth)

Also EVERYONE and their mother is expecting the Saints to take a Wide receiver first in this draft.. and when was the last time the Saints ever did what was the popular consensus opinion? rarely ever they always surprise in the Draft.

SP and co feels like WR is extremely deep in this draft, so I expect them to not select one at #24.

The Saints can like a safety in the draft, it doesn’t make it our top priority. It’s not even our biggest weakness in the secondary.

Assumptions galore. Who wouldn't like Delpit?

However, if he is there at #24, this is assuming we have solved our problems at OL and Linebacker in FA or trades. (Captain Obvious I know)

Delpit makes a lot of sense. You build your team to win your division. With the coaching changes in Carolina to include the addition of Joe Brady and the emergence of DJ Moore and playmaking ability of CMC in the passing game, the weapons TB has and the receiving weapons ATL has, improving the secondary depth to include adding another playmaker like Delpit makes sense.

For sure. Agreed.

Our problems (for me) at the moment are #1 O Line and #2 LB. Our Dline took a major hit vs SanFran but hopefully Davenport and Rankins are good to go by the quarter mark this year.

I guess we'll see what happens with Bell and Jackrabbit. I wonder what the trade possibilities and FA signings are out there for us other than Slay and a few others.

Your draft strategy is unrealistic

Well, for TWO straight drafts this entire board was obsessed with us taking a DE in the first round to pair with Cam.
The next year, the front office said, "okay, okay..." And spent TWO first round picks to draft a DE.

Of course there was a small meltdown, but you can't say that our coaches won't go above and beyond to appease the fan-base.
Maybe not in a timely manner, but yeah... they do aim to please!

So I guess that means they will wait until next year's Draft to address a complimentary #2 WR? ;)
