..and then appreciate how Brees and the Saints have handled this thing.

This has been such a special time period to be a Saints fan. After all the years of heartache, I believe we the fans deserve to have it all end with #9 riding off into the sunset. Call me sentimental. Salary cap be damned. We were always going to take a step back when Brees retired.

Let's enjoy #9 for as long as we can and appreciate that both the Saints and Brees are doing all they can to end this thing in the right way.

UPDATE:

For the record, I want a Lombardi hoist, retirement press conference, take a day off work so I can ugly cry in peace ending for #9. Not too much to ask I think.

Well said. Agree 100%.

The Pats have been by far the best team in the NFL for the last 20 years. And one big reason is that Bill doesn’t catch feelings. They dump players usually a year before they are washed up. This is the case here as well. Sentimentality will not win you a trophy imo.

And before I get lambasted it’s just a general observation and I’m glad Drew is back. I think he has one year left as an elite QB and want him to retire a Saint.

Yeah, I've heard about this a lot, and agree it has something to do with their success. But there are a lot of things the Pats do and circumstances that have led to their unprecedented success. Brady's continuity at QB is a HUGE part of their success.

I don't agree that this way of doing things should apply to beloved, Greatest of All Time, Hall of Fame quarterbacks. It does to a RG or a DL, but not the franchise guy and team leader. We will see how much their system brings them success without Brady.

Football success aside, isn't the point of all of this at the end of the day to enjoy our team and beloved players? I"m not saying you force a guy out there who can't play, but Brady can still play.

Have Pats fans had so much success up to this point that they are just good with Brady not riding into the sunset because Belichick has a system? Ugh. No thanks. Just my opinion.

Personally, I have no interest in keeping Drew purely out of nostalgia or whatever. The team around him is way too good to waste. I feel a sense of urgency to win now because you can't keep this young core of guys together forever, and I fear going back to the dark days of the Saints being horrible.

I also think Drew played well enough last year he was the best option. I question his ability to throw the ball very deep and how that effects the offense, but all QBs have weaknesses of some sort.

Great post. I totally agree.

Brady wanted to leave. He wasn't forced out.

I The report that they offered him a 1-yr deal worth less per year than he made last year, final offer doesn’t sound like they wanted him back. At best it was mutual Parting of ways. Saints didn’t disrespect Brees by offering him less. Brady cut them a pretty good sweetheart deal to get a couple of those championships. I think dude just said I wanna be paid and not disrespected.

He brought it on his-self. He went to the owner to force Jimmy G out, and now they're sitting there without a viable replacement. Kraft realizes that it's not smart business with an aging QB.

At the end of it all both sides will get over it and they will still have 6 Lombardi trophy's. All of that other stuff is minor.

Is Jimmy G consider a franchise QB??

What is a franchise QB? He was good enough to get San Fran to the SB and beat us. At minimum he was a continuation plan for the Pats post Brady.
