I still think that the priority should be keeping our own players, and we are doing a good job with that.

But as days and weeks passed, players who think will get a big contract will become bargain opportunities on sort term deals.

Here are some of these possible bargains. Just think that all of them have strong and weak points, and maybe not suitable for the saints.

- Breshad Perriman, WR-Tampa Bay. Perriman has been discussed here for a while now. He had a very disappointing stay at Baltimore where he was drafted in the first round. To be honest, his body of work is an incredible second half of the season for the Bucs. He is an attractive prospect, but with Brady coming to town, maybe he will decide to stay in a system that has been proven good for him.

- Eric Ebron, TE-Indy. Oh yeah, this one is going to be controversial. The guy tends to drop too many passes, but the guy has speed and is a red zone nightmare. I am sure the guy is asking for more money he should, but as a bargain bin, I would not mind to pair him in the middle with Cook.

- Jameis Winston, QB-Tampa. This one is a fun one. First the good. He has an incredible arm, he has the disposition to work and teammates love him. On the bad side his leadership is absolutely questionable, he lacks maturity and is a turnover machine. If the guy is smart, he should not look for a starting position, but look to the Teddy Bridgewater way and go to a quarterback school to learn his craft. I really don't think the saints will be interested in him since Sean Payton really really hates turnovers.

- Vonn Bell, SS-New Orleans. I guess the guy missed his boat. As days pass, his rate is going to go lower. I don't see him getting a long term deal. He will be a free agent again on a year or two.

- All the running backs. Melvin Gordon is going to get a good deal, but less then he expected last year. But besides him, there are really interesting players available that are not getting any attention from teams.

Any others you may think of? I would love to hear your opinions, especially on the linebacker position. We need to replace Klein but I don't see any candidate available at free agency.

A guy with a lot of talent would normally be an intriguing idea to see what Sean and Drew could teach them. But what is missing in Jameis is either something you are born with or it is too far away to teach in a couple of years. I do not see him suddenly becoming a good leader after a year or two with us.

DeAndre Washington and CJ Prosise are two RBs that I’d love to see replace Dwayne Washington. Both can play STs and both are excellent pass catching RBs that could actually contribute on offense.

Anthony Sherman would be an excellent FB to add to the Saints offense. Great lead blocker

DeVondre Campbell is a better LB than he’s getting credit for, and his arrow is still pointing up. He‘s getting knocked because of the notion he’s weak in coverage, but I’ve the guy play quite a bit, and I think that’s false... he’s not great in coverage, but he’s better than Klein in that aspect.

Greg Van Roten is a quality LG that is very solid in pass pro. Cordy Glenn is a mauler in the run game, Peat level or better in pass pro, and versatile enough to play OG and OT.

DeMarcus Robinson and Tajae Sharpe are viable WR options with playmaking ability and upside.

Mackensie Alexander is a very solid Slot CB that still has some upside and could benefit from a change of scenery. 1st round pedigree. (Signing w/ Bengals)

Ebron shut it down last year...and is a zero in run blocking. If the Saints get a TE, it should be an inline TE that has more receiving ability than Josh Hill.

Perriman is probably the #1 WR on the market. I think he is probably better than Robbie Anderson, who is soft and does nothing but stretch the field. If I'm looking for a bargain at WR, it's going to be a veteran nearing the end of his career, such as Emmanuel Sanders. There's a chance his has a reduced price tag. That's all we need because we will most definitely be looking at a future #2 WR through the draft.

I can see Winston as a back up. He has talent and is still young. I don't think that he will ever put it together...but that is fine because he would be riding the bench. He has matured some since his early days, so I don't think that he would be a distraction in any way. Seems like a low-risk, high-reward type of move.

I would say Andrus Peat is probably going to be considered a bargain for someone at this point

LB Josh Bynes has played well for the Cardinals and Ravens the past couple of years but for whatever reason, still doesn't get much love on the market. He's always been a good run stuffer and has greatly improved the past couple years in coverage. Came off the street and helped stabilize the position in Baltimore and wound up getting two interceptions. He's about the same age as A.J. Klein and is my top choice to replace him. He shouldn't cost much, due to the lack of love he's gotten over the years.

WR Tajae Sharpe is also intriguing to me. He struggled early on but has beaten out every competitor the Titans have thrown at him. He's 6'2" so he's tall, like Payton likes. And he can play slot as well as outside effectively. And he's coming off a rookie deal, which is a good player to target. I don't want to put all our chips on a rookie, even a first rounder. We need help now. So whether we sign one of the top guys or look for a bargain like Sharpe, I'm all for it.

A bunch of decent corners and offensive linemen, as well as a few Alex Okafor type pass rushers but clearly

Linebacker
Wide Receiver
Quarterback

Will need to be addressed in the draft.

PFF's best available.

PFF has him rated as the worst guard in the league.
Im not going to defend Peat because I saw what everyone else saw out of him last year, but he was injured and probably should have been put on IR for the season. With that said, Im still a bit surprised he hasnt been signed as even so-so linemen are in demand

Yup, that guy with the really long name with lots of vowels from the Eagles who played like a tall version of Daryl Terrell got ten million dollars a year.
