Saints Saints Re-sign Andrus Peat/5 year $57.5M ($33M Guaranteed) (2 Viewers)

Easton did a great job last year?

Yup, how many sacks did he give up?? How many penalties he had? I'll wait............. Easton played in more than a couple of games and was as quiet as a mouse, which is the ulitmate compliment for a O-lineman.

You hit a bullseye here. Yes the rookie came in and played way beyond anyone's expectations so no one questioned the loss of Unger's play. But who replaced the caller on our line was the other half the equation most people forget. Unger's mind was just as hard to replace as his play. There was a drop off here and our line paid the price in a lot of situations.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Warford struggled at times this year as well.

Peat's thighs = Harper's neck, so maybe he's worth it.

I hope he tries hard to prove he's worth that big contract every day. I hope he comes into camp with 15 pounds less fat and 15 pounds more muscle.

Excellent post. I hadn’t thought of that.

Lol, have you checked what guards are making in this round of FA?

But no, I still have to disagree. He, his agent and those teams utterly desperate for a capable left tackle would also be considering him as a potential LT signing with plus versatility. That means $$$
Yep this exactly

Do you have a link possibly? Because I’m not remembering that at all.

We couldn’t restructure his contract in 2019 because as I said there weren’t any life left in the contract to shift that money to (it would have to be an extension) and in 2018 he was in the midst of a legitimate Pro Bowl caliber season and was only counting for ~$3.6M against the cap. That wouldn’t give us much space anyway because those rookie deals don’t have much wiggle room built into them.
2 things. I read and listen to as much Saints stuff as I can. 2) I'm old and I don't
Great article. Thanks.

On the bright side, at least now there will at least be a debate rather than the obvious answer of "Jairus Byrd."

Well I hope it all works out. Peat is big like Carl Nicks so that part is good. If he can just improve his conditioning I think that will go a long way to having a good season.

To me he has been responsible for the most pressure Drew sees. And interior kills Drew as it does most QB’s. He’s also gotten Drew hurt. Think he’s very soft mentally. Which you want nasty especially on the lines. Jmho.
I hope he is amazing and healthy (health most important not even about football) going forward but imo he’s the weak link. I miss Evans and Nicks in their prime on the inside.

Soft mentally? I'm pretty sure he played through an injury two years ago. And again with him getting Drew hurt? He didn't get Drew hurt, Aaron Donald did. Donald is a beast, him beating Peat means nothing.

Didn’t Easton do a better job than Peat when he was in there? Why are they not high on Easton? I liked Peat at first b/c of his versatility but I do think there has been some digressing there plus he was the main reason Brees got hurt last year and against good teams he seems to get beat all the time. I hope all of this was due to the fact he was injured and he can stay healthy going forward. We got him so we have to hope he does well.

Not that his opinion is gospel but people respect RevDeuce and he says Peat did better than Easton.

I would have preferred we paid for a legit LB with that amount of cash compared to giving it to Peat considering he’s surrounded by McCoy and Armstead and is still the weakest link on the line. Easton and Tom could have filled in along with a draft pick. I would have looked to FA next year or draft class if this is a weak class (OG wise). But I don’t make the decisions, it’s just head scratching

Not soft in that regard. Soft in that he has no mean streak imo that o linemen need.

And respectfully disagree that it has nothing to do with whom is beat to get Drew hurt.
Peat has whiffed way too many times in his career imo.

On his health I hope he can get healthy and remain healthy, for his sake. He’s been banged a lot.
Will continue to pull for him and hope he does wel
