Kudos to Loomis and CSP as they have assembled a very strong looking group while losing an improving Bell. If the D Line can stay healthy this might be our best defense since SB team. With the late additions to the secondary I really do see the Saints going LB in the first round even if they have to move up. Who are the best prospects this year?

It really comes down to 2 players at LB: Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen. They’re both fast and explosive with Murray more of a run stopper with great explosion into the backfield, moving forward he’s excellent. Reminds many of Stephone Anthony due to looking completely lost moving backwards and in coverage. Queen is faster than Murray, not quite as explosive moving forward but he looks like a db moving backwards and in coverage.
I think Queen is more of a modern lb being better against the pass but he’s undersized and gets washed out when blockers gets their hands on him. He does do a great job using his phenomenal lateral agility to beat blockers though. I prefer Queen

I agree with your assessment. We should have an experienced leader in the secondary in Jenkins getting the youngsters playing better and understanding what the offenses are trying to do. I have been saying for awhile now that I sure would like to see us go LB in round one. There are two or three guys who may be available at 24, although as you noted we may have to move up a few spots to get a guy like Murray. There is also Queen from LSU and a guy named Baun who I like alot. If we do not go LB in round 1, I believe there is a good possibility that CB could be a position we look to add depth to. Of course, Coach Payton could just as easily surprise many of us by going RB or evben QB if one he like falls! Should be interesting to watch unfold on draft day!

Hurry up draft day!! Lol
Baun looks good but he doesn’t seem as explosive as the other two on tape and is more of a pass rusher type.

I would say the last couple years the defense has been good. They just need to find a way to generate more turnover. The 09 team was great at that. That being said if they stay healthy they will be scary good. Most everyone on that D is young and have opportunities to improve.

The D also has excellent leadership on all 3 levels.

Murray the best LBER in draft. IMO.
Hooe Saints go after Te'Von Te'Von Coney. Hes a FA. Drafted by Raiders but got cut from the final 53. Sign Coney, sign Ogletree, and draft Murray. Set with....

Anzalone, DD, Kiko
Ellis, Coney, Ogletree
Murray, T'eo

Yea this secondary is scary I’m good with PRob being Backup Nickel behind CGJ and drafting a Outside CB to compete with or backup Jenkins

Also wouldn’t mind bringing back PJ as a Dual Safety

Dont forget about Zach Baun from Wisconson

Dudes a stud!

Hes that bigger LB that this team needs. Someone who can set the edge and blow things up.

Hes also pretty decent in coverage as well.

In this NFL, you have to be

P-Rob was bad here. Leaves to eagles is a stud. Comes back and [Mod Edit - Read the rules] doesn't play well. Same with Roman Harper. Seems saints are the problem

Yep, and this is why I'm not onboard the Malcolm Jenkins train. He was awful when he left the Saints, and he mysteriously shined when he was with the Eagles. Hopefully, he won't revert back to his old non-productive ways when he returns.

Currently, Patrick Robinson is the top backup CB for both the boundary and slot CB spots... that’s not good IMO.
When P-Rob saw the field last season, he had a couple of good moments (but more bad) and opposing QBs immediately targeted him when they saw #21 on the field

Exactly. Our secondary isn't scary good until we get some better depth at CB. And Williams needs to stop screwing up in crucial moments.

I’ve gotta scout the guy more but isn’t he only like 235? That’s kinda small and not sure he’s any good at coverage at all being mostly a pass rusher. Be back shortly after looking at his tape

I need to see the Saints have a good secondary on Sunday’s. Having it on paper means nothing to me. Superfan is right, we always seem to have problems no matter what talent, DB coach, or d-coordinator. Maybe going against Drew Brees every practice is the reason they tend to have problems on game day.
