Sean Payton: Taysom Hill to be backup quarterback (mod edit) (1 Viewer)

I fully expect that to be what we do. Though as much as I want it to be Jordan Love, it'll probably be Jake Fromm, Cole McDonald, or even Jalen Hurts in the 3rd round or later.

I could see a trade up into the second for a guy. Next year's expected comp picks may be viewed as ammunition to move this year. You can't use them in a trade yet but they may be more willing to give up what they do have.

Von Bell was a top-notch young player getting better every year. We seldom heard that an offensive player broke a tackle form Bell or slipped beyond Bell for a TD. He was one of the top blitzing safeties in the league and a leader on the field.

The acquisition of Jenkins and letting go Bell kinda lends me to believe that the coaches value Marcus Williams more than Bell and want more experience in the defensive backfield. Jenkins should be a great mentor for Marcus Williams. I will miss Bell and wish him the very best, but I'll take a step slower Jenkins in the short term. It's great problem to have from so many phenomenal drafts

To me, this makes it more likely we will draft a QB.

We need a viable #3 QB with Taysom as the #2. There is too much risk that a #3 could be playing if Brees goes down.

Any QB worth his salt may be tough to bring in if the message is that he's not even competing for the #2 spot.

Drafting a QB reasonably high fits well with that situation.

I'm not predicting it but I feel like its more likely than before. It also fits in with these escalating deals.
I don’t think they will draft a QB. They will bring in a veteran FA because they want the experience. Drafting a QB in round 1 is a wasted draft pick. They are all in to win this year. If you can’t start then you aren’t needed.

So Taysum got the contract for more years?

Taysom will get his snaps on offense running RPO plays or playing that hback position.

Saints will draft or sign a QB to replace Bridgewater and serve as competition for Hill in the future.

It could be pretty awkward having Taysom at 2.

We were saving 1 or 2 roster spots by using Taysom on ST and all the other positions. Yes, he will still be the Joker, but will he also play ST? If not, it will cost us at least 1 roster spot, not counting the no. 3 QB which will have to be active.

I hope he does, he held up really well last year. He still trucks people, but not on every down as he did in college.

I think Taysom is basically the future QB at this point, until someone takes it from him, IMO. We could end up with another QB at some point that may win the job, but as it stands, I think it’s his job to lose.

He's not costing any additional roster spots. We had three quarterbacks active last year. There's no change in that regard.

Since most every team activates only two quarterbacks anyway, just think of it as activating another tight end or fullback who can also play quarterback.

I agree, but if he is #2, we wont see the swiss army knife taysom.

There's no reason that has to be true. We will have a #3 QB in the very, very unlikely both Brees and Hill get injured. The NFL changed the rules some years back to allow that 3rd QB to be active without taking an active roster spot.
