How will the Saints use these two players? Most assume Jenkins steps in as the starting SS, but is it possible the Saints play Jenkins more in the slot and groom CJGJ as the full-time SS? Jenkins is still playing very sound football, and he still has the skills to showcase his versatility.
What was Jenkins’ primary role within the Eagles defense when he was at his very best?

CJGJ, Jenkins, and M. Williams will essentially form three safety nickel look. Jenkins will most likely be manning up with TE’s out of the slot while CJGJ will be manning up with WR’s out of the slot.

Jenkins’ primary role with the Eagles was SS. He played primarily FS when he was with the Saints and Roman Harper was the SS.

Marcus Williams is the deep safety, with Marshon and Janoris at outside corner. I think we'll see CJ and Malcolm be used interchangeably, unless one of them prove to be a liabilities in any area.

Hopefully Jenkins plays lights out. Wasn’t tackling a weakness of his when he was previously here? Although, it was the majority of the defense at the time. I sure didn’t follow him too much with the Eagles.

Jenkins will be the SS and CGJ will be the slot corner. Jenkins is a former all pro SS and CGJ was the second best slot corner in the entire league last year.

Based off what? I cant imagine he saw enough snaps there to be in the running.

I hate playing CGJ out of position. He's a safety. He can be great there.

NCB-CJ Gardner Johnson, P. Robinson

FS-M.Williams, D.Swearginer

SS- M. Jenkins, S.Hampton/Gray

DB-PJ.Williams who probably would be the top backup to all 3 positions

If we can hit on a Outside CB to pair with Lattimore and Jenkins to compete man this Secondary can be down right scary !!!

more PFF, per players with over 250 he was the number 2 slot corner in the entire league. It was already posted on here

I must admit that looks very good on paper. And more importantly than their play is the fact that several of those guys are dogs. We need more of that on our team.
I’d forgotten all about D.J. That guy is a wrecking ball with a mean streak. Very happy they kept him.
I thought D.J. was a SS tho. Maybe I’m wrong and I just had that notion as he hits like a linebacker and plays the box a lot.

Loomis needs to find a solid backup for old man Jenkins.

Which “old man” Jenkins... Malcolm or Janoris?

Both players are somewhat “long in the tooth”.

IMHO, the Saints must find a rookie boundary CB to groom as an eventual starter opposite Lattimore. I really like Jaylon Johnson from Utah

Jenkins from what I understand played at his best in the box...covering the slot and playing SS. CGJ is actually VERY similar to Jenkins, though I think that CGJ is a more violent/physical player. Jenkins should be a tremendous mentor for CGJ.

Saints main defense the past few seasons has been nickel or 4-2. I’m pretty confident that you see Jenkins and CGJ on the field a ton this season. PRob will likely go on the field in dime and heavy 3-WR sets. Gives the Saints some ability to play matchups and mix up their formations. I still think that another LB is essential, especially one capable in zone coverage. Anzalone has potential but has been incredibly inconsistent and you just can’t depend on him with injuries. Kiko is a nice downhill run defender but he’s a bit limited in coverage (along with concerns about injury).

Jenkins is on a two year deal. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Saints draft a CB but I probably wouldn’t in the 1st. I’d say it’s pretty likely that incoming CB from any round would play much this season.

I’m sure we will see both playing safety at times, but I think Jenkins will get most of the SS snaps with CGJ playing nickel corner. CGJ and PJ will likely battle for the main nickel corner spot with both playing there at times. Unless PRob has a resurgence and looks like he did with the Eagles, but I think that’s highly unlikely at this time. He will likely be our 4th corner unless we draft someone better.

CB-Lattimore/Nichols/Hardee
FS- Marcus/Swearinger/Hampton
SS- Malcolm/CGJ/Gray
CB- Janoris/PRob
NB- CGJ/PJ

Thats 12 DBs and I doubt we would keep more than that. So if we do draft a corner like I hope they would probably battle with Nichols & PRob for a roster spot with one of them likely not making the team. I’m sure we gonna bring back Gray. Unless we keep an extra corner and let Hampton go.
