There's nothing inconsistent about the rule. The only inconsistency was in its application by Al Riveron.

The officials saw to it that this was never going to be applied in an equitable manner and did everything in their power to make sure it went away.

The old “we screwed up really bad, but then we screwed up a lot of bad” ploy worked. We can now just go back to screwing up (read ‘screwing over’) bad.

I agree that the rule didn’t help. It was to save face for what happened to us, yet set up to fail from the beginning. What good is a replay if they don't even bother making a second judgement and dismissing the play altogether? The refs are human. I get that. Yet, they have a job just like everyone else and should be held accountable like everyone else. There definitely needs to be a booth review for situations that warrant it. By that, I mean blatant screw-ups that cost teams a game.

This whole thing was a joke. The subjectivity of overturning plays only when they felt like it was very frustrating to watch. Methinks they did that on purpose just so they don't have to do it anymore.

So true! 10 times out of 10 if it’s close; their throwing the flag on us... even if one of our players breaths on a receiver it seems to equal into pass interference...

Agreed. The fact that the league instituted the new rule, the very next season no less, is an admission of fault for the no-call in my opinion. And any rule that will, when used as intended, show error on the part of the league officials was doomed from the beginning.
