Until a vaccine or the herd immunity builds up. At least on the West Coast...looking harder to imagine a season in 2020. :(

A season with fans? Probably not. It just seems too risky until they have a vaccine.

But I would be very surprised if they didn’t play in empty stadiums. Too much at stake with TV revenue. And they can come up with creative ways to make up some of the lost attendance revenue.

The NFL so far has come up with creative ways to continue on. I think they will find a way to get actual league play going. It might be later than expected. There probably won't be any fans attendance. It also wouldn't be surprising if college football in 20 is cancelled

Agreed, here in Quebec ( and most of Canada) we had the same decision, and no one is complaining.
I'm not saying that people won't have anything to complain about.
It's just that there is no choice in how to respond to this pandemic crisis.
There's no doubt that this lockdown is going to hurt everyone both now and in the future.
But won't it be wonderful to be able to save the lives of a very large percentage of the population in the meantime.

Doing the best thing for the economy is not what this action is about.
We're saving lives now. The economy will have to wait.

Do you realize that lives will be lost due to people not being able to pay their rent or afford food? It's not about saving the ultra wealthy, they'll be fine either way with all of the trillions being printed and handed out. It's going to hurt the lowest income individuals the hardest (as always). Not to mention the loss of life down the road from the repercussions of inflation by way of 'printing' trillions to prop up companies that should have to go through chapter 11. It was their decision to try and eke out an extra 1-2% on the bottom line instead of having some capital reserves built up. They should take the fall not our future generations.

I certainly do understand all of that. I will be one of those people you are talking about.
I'm down to nothing now and will soon have only that stimulus check to live on... if it gets here in time.
But at least I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I helped to save lives now.

Even as the world or rest of the country begins to open and move forward, the west coast will linger behind. It will either be the result of true concern or "resistance"...it's a blurry line. As a person who runs a business in CA, I can tell you that many of the business owners and managers I talk to, don't have a lot of faith in Newsom, and that concern crosses partisan lines. I spend half of my time in CA, and half in Texas. It's like two different places. I was about to head back to the Bay Area as this thing started to pop and decided to stay home. I was afraid I'd get stuck out there. The Oregon Governor openly admits that they do things differently out west, "We’re using different metrics here in Oregon.” CA and Oregon aren't usually that far apart on these kind of things, although in CA at least you can pump your own gas.

Due to the nature of the way the virus spreads I'll be shocked if we can ever get rid of it. All we are doing is preventing hospitals from overcrowding temporarily. A month after the economy restarts we'll be right back in the same spot we are now.

I don't claim to have any answers, but I do know that 35-40K people die in USA traffic accidents every year. You can bank on it. So, I ask an honest question, do we all stop driving to stop the deaths?
