Is anyone other than me surprised that T. Hill hasn't been signed to a new contract as of yet? I find it suspicious................thoughts anyone?

Friday is the deadline for him to sign an offer sheet with another team.

Not at all. I don’t expect him to sign long-term. He’ll sign his one year tender. But what would his contract look like? A Swiss Army knife contract? A backup QB contract? A 2021 starting QB contract?

I think we’re going to need to know what his long term role is going to be before we give him a contract. I think it happens next year.

I hope his agent isn't trying to play hardball.

Swiss army knife/backup QB.

Could be as much as $10 million per.

And if next year Drew retires and Taysom is the starter you expect him to play under that contract as a starting quarterback? It's not going to happen. If he signs long term it won't be until next year.

I'm not worried that he has not signed now. Friday is the last day other teams have the chance to sign him to a contract. So I can imagine he would want to wait until after then. After that, he will definitely be a Saint if he decides to play football. But I would think he would want to sign officially before the draft. If not, then it might wind up like Vonn Bell. Bell did not exactly say No to the Saints, but he dragged his feet on signing hoping for another team to make a good offer. The Saints waited and when Malcolm Jenkins became available they had to jump in case Bell went elsewhere. I would hope Hill would sign before the draft so the Saints will not have to try to find a QB in this draft.

I don't think hardball is the problem. That is a complicated contract for both sides. I think they are trying to come up with a unique structure that will allow the Saints to pay him for the expected role this year and then pay him like a starter starting next year. And even if you factor out the unique role this year, its still a complicated contract because the Saints have clearly stated they view him as a starter but he doesn't have any track record as such that would help slot him with comparable starters already under contract. A contract like that necessitates a lot more back and forth than a typical negotiation.

I bet we want to see if any opportunities arise to make a splash on a QB during the draft before sinking long term money into Taysom.

He wasn't aware we can't sign him until after this Friday.
We can sign him at any time. We do not have to wait until Friday. Now, he may want to keep his options open until Friday in hopes of a huge offer elsewhere, but he could have signed at any time.

He'll get his money. But i think he loves playing football so much, he'd fire his agent before he'd hold out.

There's no real reason for the Saints to hold off on signing him except if they're hoping that some team makes him an offer and thus we get a first rounder.
