That sounds nice in theory but how many players, staff, trainers, and coaches are needed on game day?
Yeah, practically and logistically, it's going to be more challenging for the NFL. Bigger rosters, larger coaching staffs, more support personnel. Not saying it's impossible, but there are some serious hurdles in the way.
You can keep tabs on players, but unless they are never interacting with the outside world, that only accomplishes so much. What happens when a player tests positive on a Tuesday after playing the previous Sunday? My understanding of tracing and quarantining is that would then expose his teammates and recent opponents to quarantine, as well. Unless there are some alternate safe ways devised to circumvent the only steps we currently have to manage spread, I'm not sure how we can expect to get through a season without the possibility of serious disruptions, until there is a vaccine.
How kind of the kommissar.
So, how are the players supposed to social distance. Also, how is this an essential business.Dr. Fauci says sports can return without fans.

I'm sorry. I didn't see an infectious disease expert on my ballot.Wow such a funny response! Grow up. He’s one of the leading infectious disease experts. Humble yourself and listen to people that know more than you.
So, only the rich can go back to work or enjoy themselves? Fauci has made some dubious calls during his time in this spotlight. There would always be that possibility. But it would be hugely mitigated and perhaps even nullified by quarantining. And by then, there will almost certainly be a lot more testing available to justify consistent testing multiple times a week.
There are billions of dollars at stake for both the players and owners. And you now have the doctor who is heading up the task force practically advocating for it.
This virus is awful and I know many people haven’t taken it seriously enough. But having Fauci advocating the idea with health officials, players and owners all on board would seem to be a fair, safe and logical tipping point to me.

Yes, it's encouraging to all of us craving any and all semblances of normalcy. And as Saints fan, the part we don't want to really speak out loud is that this is happening at the very twilight of Drew's career. I hope the 2020 season happens, and I think every effort will be made to accomplish that. I also understand that despite best efforts and intentions, that might not happen.
I mostly got from Fauci's comments a theoretical laying out of how it can happen. It's a decision that will ultimately have to be made by the stakeholders who have a responsibility to the health and well-being of the players, coaches, staff, and their family members.

I can see a lot of college players sitting out if they attempt to start the season, especially ones that’ll be eligible for the 2021 Draft. The NCAA may be forced to cancel. We’re on the same page with all that.
I think you’re going to see attempts by MLB very soon. There will need to be some clear outlines of what happens if someone tests positive.
At this point, I would be pretty surprised if you didn’t see strong attempts by MLB and the NFL. I think NBA will likely try to do playoffs. College sports are too tough, IMO, because they rely a lot more on fans and it’s just too hard and unfair to implement this sort of quarantining for amateur athletes who don’t even have a union to advocate for them.
