Saints re-sign Dwayne Washington (1 Viewer)

It seems unlikely that the Saints would be interested in drafting a running back based on this re-signing.
It depends on what your long term intentions with Alvin Kamara are. If you doubt you can re-sign him, and a quality back is available, you make the pick and start working him in. Latavius won't be around forever. He's 30 and not a feature back. Dwayne is a ST and depth guy.

Sure looked like one when Payton wasn't starving him of carries and actually fed him the rock while Kamara was out against the Bears and Cardinals.

vs. Chicago - 27 carries, 119 yards, 4.4 YPC, 2 TD
vs. Arizona - 21 carries, 102 yards, 4.9 YPC, 2 TD (1 rushing, 1 receiving)

48 carries, 221 yards, 4.6 YPC, 4 total TD's

30 years old. Like Alvin, I think LT performs better in a shared role. My point was simply, if Alvin isn't in our future plans, at the very least we need a compliment for LT. He won't be a bell cow. There are very few bell cows.

Murray is what he is going to be at this point. He's 30 years old and on his third team in six years. He's a good veteran backup that can start a few games a year and do well if need be, but he's not a guy you really want to turn over your full time starting RB job to. Especially since all be a few exceptional RBs start to go down hill when they hit 30. Some faster than others.

I also find it funny that people were complaining how bad Murray was when we signed him last year and calling him a bust after three games last season. But now people want to trade Kamara and have him as the lead back.

Keep Kamara camp: 'Clear proof that the team has it's three top RBs and won't be drafting another.'

Trade Kamara camp: 'This is clear evidence that the team will move on from Kamara, we have the flexibility to trade him and add a top RB in the draft.'

Confirmation bias is a wonderful thing.

Interesting. I'm in neither camp and believe we could draft a RB whether we re-sign him or not. The Washington signing has zero influence on our short or long term future with feature RB(s).

I'm sure we would draft a RB with major upside. Wash is an emergency back and great ST guy, but, ya just can't ask for anything more than that.

Washington isn’t even an emergency RB... they signed a guy off the street last season, and he got snaps on offense with less than a week on the roster over Washington. Washington is a good special teams player, and that’s it.
I have nothing against Washington, but I just don’t think he’s worth a roster spot. Not a fan of this move

I think it does. I wouldn’t complete rule it out but I think it reflects the direction that I they plan to take in the first round. That pick will limit what other positions they can address. You have to imagine they want to draft an interior OL, LB, and a WR at some point and that CB is a huge possibility. So that first round pick will have ramifications for how they make their other selections.
