With the NFL draft less than a week away, I am taking a look at a few players that could be there for the New Orleans Saints in first-round.

The Saints will have the 24th pick in the first round of the draft.

Justin Jefferson, Wide Receiver, LSU

It’s a long shot that Jefferson would still be available at #24, but I have seen bigger longshots get to this point.

The former Destrehan High School standout was the best slot-wide receiver in the nation in 2019, catching 111 passes for 1,540 yards, he averaged 13.9 yards per catch and scored 18 touchdowns.

While Ja’Marr Chase emerged as a star wide-out for the Tigers, it was Jefferson who quarterback Joe Burrow trusted the most to get open in certain down and distance situations. If LSU needed a big-play, Jefferson got it for the Tigers.

I have Jefferson off the board by the time the Saints pick in the first round, but if he is there, I don’t see how New Orleans could pass on him.

Whoever selects the 6-1, 200-pound end is getting a first-rate route runner. He is a terrific set-up guy to gain separation downfield. He is sure-handed, quick to get into and out of his cuts and breaks, he has excellent foot speed and he is a competitor at the highest level.

Thanks Dan. I am happy to read that Mike is high on the 3 linebackers.

I also agree that Jefferson, and other 3 receivers, will be taken before our pick.

Jefferson and any of the 3 LBs would all be great to good picks. But whatever the Saints do, I pray they do not pick a guy with a repeat history of injuries like the Colorado receiver who falls down the draft board. They have a history of doing this, and it has not worked out well for us. I will say this, though: They usually don't take those kinds of risks in the first round.

If it wasn't for his injuries Laviska Shenault would be the pick. Love Shenault , Jeudy, Pittman, Mims, and both Jeffersons (Justin/Van 3rd round) Like all the LBers.

I like Mike. He does a great job with the insight he provides on players. The Saints will have a ton of options at 24! Maybe move up if there is a player falling out of say the top 12 that they think highly of, or dropping back, because there are a number of players they like and can grab later in the 1st. They could stay at 24. This article really doesn’t do anything for me, as far as providing anything of significance that most of us do not already know.

Since we are talking about something Mike D. said. I heard him on another radio station the other day. Is he no longer working for WWL radio?

Good to know that, this year, the Saints will actually have options to draft instead of previous years when they were required to select a certain player.

I believe a team will be make a surprise move to off set where some kid was projected to land, leaving a STUD player to fall in our laps like Lattimore and Ramzyck did.

Thursday can't get here quick enough.

And both of those picks right before us were traded up for....
Patrick Mahommes and Reuben Foster

Shenault has a better chance of going in the 3rd round right now than the 1st. He’s fallen quite a bit.

I’d be down with anyone else on that list.
