Report: Saints “like” WR Jalen Reagor at No. 24 (1 Viewer)

Don’t know much about any of the prospects this year, but I could absolutely see us taking a receiver. Or corner, or LB, or DL. It’s pretty much wide open I think. BPA.

They do like Reagor just as they do Brandon Aiyuk. The Saints want to get faster on offense. They really, really like Henry Ruggs and the speed element he brings to the game; suffice it to say, in a perfect world he would fall to them.

Barring Ruggs falling to them, Aiyuk, Jefferson, Reagor, and Mims are names to watch if they take a WR.

I think they value some of the receivers over the linebackers. That does not mean that they don’t like Queen or Murray but from what I gather a receiver could be chosen even if one of the backers is available. I think there are some other LBs they like later too. It would not surprise me to see one of these guys slip a little while a guy like Jordyn Brooks surprises as a first rounder.

I think the Saints are in the quarterback business. If the right guy is there or within range, as I’ve said all along, we will take him. The right guy would be Jordan Love though I think there is a lot of love for Tua Tagovailoa in the building. If either of those guys are there, I am fairly certain QB will be the pick over WR and LB. The only other position I could see them addressing is CB but the grades will be higher on the WRs and LBs and especially the QBs barring an unforeseen drop.

One final nugget on the Saints, and I believe I have mentioned this before—it really would not be a surprise if Larry Warford is traded during draft weekend. I continue to say it is 35-65 but I do not think they are opposed to it. As always, take this all for what it is worth.

Lastly, expect about 4-7 names you have not heard mocked as first rounders to go in round 1. Perhaps the biggest surprise among the names I’ve heard is Marlon Davidson who I don’t think any mock has had.

Ugh. If we take him, I'd accept it. We haven't missed on a skill position that high yet. No reason we should do so now. I guess the closest is Meachem, but it's not like he wasn't good. He just was pretty below average for a 1st rounder. And I can see Raegor being like a smaller Meachem. Maybe not as fast. Or faster? I don't know. His 40 time is so confusing.

Also, there's the real chance this is to deflect from our real target Brandon Aiyuk.

Edit: I think I saw a Marlon Davidson thread the other day. Lots of plays where he's hustling and shows a tenacity that teams would highly covet.

No chance. 3rd round pick
The Saints might not take him but I think he goes in the first round. Early second is his floor but there are a lot of teams who like him.

Teams, including the Saints, want speed and more speed. Guys like Reagor and Ruggs have a lot of it, which makes teams covet them. That speed will get Reagor drafted far earlier than the third round.

I’ve been using nfl.com’s draft profiles for reading this week. Reagor is rated at a level which projects him as a starter in 2 years. Reading his profile, he sounds like a Ginn replacement. He’s compared to Curtis Samuel. He’s #40 overall on nfl.com’s scoring system.

Strengths
  • Fluid but explosive
  • Versatility to create chunk plays from all levels
  • Works all three levels, including gadget plays
  • Sells vertical push to set up route breaks
  • Loose hips to sink quickly to snap off breaks
  • Shows ability to lose coverage at the top of the route
  • Gets to top speed very quickly and opens separation deep
  • Able to leap up the ladder and snag it at the high-point
  • Silky with the ball in his hands
  • Plays like a slashing running back in space
  • Creative return option with home-run potential
Weaknesses
  • Gets stalled by press more than expected
  • Strong cornerbacks ride and grind on early stages of route
  • Needs to maintain focus and finish his routes
  • Frustration with quarterback appeared to creep into play at times
  • Cornerbacks go unstacked on long throws
  • Uneven tape in competitive catch situations
  • Inconsistent leveraging space to catch
  • Ball skills fail to match athletic ability

With everything, there is an order. But the rumors that they like Reagor are not false. The question is, how much? I think they like him enough that he is a WR they’ll consider. It bears mentioning that Aiyuk has more of the physical traits they like. I think QB, in a perfect world, is where they really want to go. But if none are within range, then I think they’ll look to add a dynamic weapon at WR.

I'm going to need to look at him some more.

The thing to keep in mind is just as Love got no help from those around him, Reagor got no help from his QB. He had the lowest percentage of catchable passes thrown to him of any WR in this draft. Now, there are some rough parts to his game. Same with Mims. Two imperfect prospects. But I think the Saints want to add speed and that is part of the equation here. If I were a betting man, I think Aiyuk and Jefferson would go higher.

If speed is what the team wants, why not trade for John Ross and put him in the slot? ...Or, believe in Harris to learn the offense?

The thing that concerns me is that in the last few years at least, it seems like there's been a lot less phoniness coming from the Saints' camp. Payton's been more truthful.

With Reagor, I just don't get it. What is the point of a smaller Meachem; a "speed receiver" that only barely cracks a 4.5? His shuttle and three cone are also pretty bad.

I truly hope it's a smokescreen. The last "WTF" pick for us was Meachem. While he wasn't a bust, I'd call him a disappointment for where he was drafted.

I do like Aiyuk better. Seems like a Brandin Cooks who can actually do something after the catch.
