This is a great breakdown of our new interior offensive lineman. Oddly enough, the video was put together by a Ravens fan, who said he would have no problem at all if they took him at #28. The Ravens instead took Patrick Queen, who many of us wanted.

Watching this, it's easy to see why the Saints value Ruiz. He's the rare type of center who is both athletic and able to anchor against power. Usually you almost always have to choose, and when we've had to make that choice, we've sided with athleticism (think of a guy like Cameron Tom, or one of our early centers like Jeff Faine or Brian de la Puente). Ruiz is a treat to watch on screens and pulls as well.

I told my group message at the beginning of the draft to not be surprised if Cesar Ruiz is the pick. I was starting to think it would be Queen the closer we got. I'm stoked. Hes the best Center/Guard in the draft and we need to tighten up that interior.

Wow!!!!!!
I felt great initially, seeing how well we click on all cylinders when our OL is clicking....but after watching this.....

I am out of my mind excited. He’s not just good......he’s a 5 tool interior lineman.

Anchors down bigtime on bull rushes, punches violently with his hands, can arm bar block a second guy without holding, head is always moving, has a very aggressive mean streak.....and then watching him react when we picked him. So honored. Can’t wait to hear him speak.

Outstanding pick, another gem by the braintrust.

I'm with you. Couldn't be more stoked.

Just the little I heard him speak getting interviewed, color me very impressed. He appears by all accounts to be a great young man to go along with his great talent level.

Win win.

Thanks to the OP for posting this.

The future is N-O-W... and this pick proved it. Best interior OLineman in the draft, IMO.

Anyone not convinced that the Saints coaching and FO are "ALL IN" for Super Bowl or Bust...

...put the pipe down.

:gosaints:

I was in fear after the Panthers took D.Brown, now i'm not nearly as concerned. . . we needed to take this guy.

Didn't know much about the pick, so it's good to get film on him. Looks like a solid selection. Definitely fills a need. More than half of the video, though, is Michigan-Sparty. Would have been good to see how he performed against top defenses in the Big Ten like Ohio State.

"He was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and recognized by Pro Football Focus as the nation's top pass-blocking center in 2019, playing 447 snaps in pass protection and allowing just eight pressures — with none over the final five games, including against Alabama and Ohio State. "

That's really impressive. I mean giving up no sacks in five games including games against Alabma and Ohio State would be impressive, but he gave up no pressures. That's pretty special.
