Approximate numbers

$5.3 million under the cap

Rookie pool cap hit:
$1.8 million (maximum), but could be less than half that depending on how contracts are structured

Taysom Hill signing
????

Jameis Winston signing
2.86 million

Larry Warford cut
7.75 million in cap savings

Larry Warford traded
8.5 million in cap savings

I can't see how Warford isn't dealt with in either a cut or trade. BTW, June 1 is no longer relevant, so this can happen at any time.

Yeah, I believe they are shopping Warford hoping to get a pick next season for him, if that doesn't work out then they will cut him..

Someone out there will throw a 5th or 6th rounder at us though that wasn't able to address guard via the draft

I think we can possibly get a 7th. If someone offers it, take it fast. It's an extra 750K in cap savings and a draft pick.

Easton might be better trade bait because he's less expensive but, if it's just a salary dump, it'll probably be Warford.

1. The Saints cap space isn't really known by fans. According to spot trac it is 3.5m and overthecap says 5M.

2. The drafted rookie pool will be more that 1.8M. Last years 24th pick was Josh Jacobs and his deal for the 1st year was a rookie minimum salary and a 6.99m signing bonus that is prorated over 4 years for a cap charge of 1.675m. Ruiz will have a slightly more then add in the signing bonus from the 2 third round picks. I believe those will add upto above 2m.

3. Winston is reported to sign for 1 year so there is no proration and I doubt he agreed to anything less than 5-6m.

4. There would be no difference on savings of either cutting or trading Warford. That number is 7.75m. The roster bonus has for this year has been paid by the Saints and can not be transferred if traded.

if there is no savings they need to keep him for depth if they will let Ruiz take his spot, theres always injuries

Spotrac is accounting for the rookie pool so that's why it's lower.

We can figure with relative certainty that the number is right in the $5 million range.

You haven't accounted for the rookie pool correctly. Our first 3 draft picks will replace the bottom 3, so subtract about $2,100 from what you are figuring.

I'll stick by my numbers on Warford.

I hope to God we didn't pay Winston north of $5 million, but we shall see.

Can Warford be "extended" with a voidable year to basically kick half of his hit into 2021?

2. Not sure if you considering that the rookies knock another player off the top 53. So deduct around 0.7 mil for each contract. You might be, just not sure.

3. I'm hearing rumors of a very cheap contract. I would think in that range but we will see. They might do a void year again.

4. There is a difference. In a trade guaranteed salary goes to the other team. The current team just has to cover the prorated signing bonus. Warford had 0.75 mil guaranteed salary according to OTC.

If it's a trade it would have to be Warford. I don't think we could get much for him but I don't think we would get anything for Easton.

If it's a cut I'd prefer to keep Warford and cut Easton.

I think we have kicked 2021 enough. Don't you?

It's not ideal but the cap will be higher, and I'm not in love with the idea of releasing Warford while still carrying $5M of dead cap on a very capable, starting guard. I'd rather have him on the team and move some of that hit into 2021.
