Didn’t know which Jameis thread to put this in, mods feel free to merge.

This is a great breakdown. In short:

-Jameis has ridiculous arm talent. Arguably top 2-3 in the league

-he is very good at identifying coverage pre-snap and making the right throw based on the coverage he sees

-he struggles when coverage flips or teams successfully take away the correct first read for a given defense.

-a few of his INTs were bc of his pass-catchers mistakes (the guy doing the breakdown mentions OJ Howard).

Here’s where this could be the perfect marriage: SP is the best in the NFL when it comes to forcing a D to show their hand. He sends out crazy personnel groupings and formations that force defenses into uncomfortable spots, ultimately giving away their plan pre-snap.

If SP can help Winston stop forcing the throw on his first read when the D adjusts post-snap, their ability to demolish defenses when they identify coverages could be really fun to watch.

Couple of things were mentioned which are entirely possible. Lots of WR option routes, and a lot of that offense looks like it’s a timing throw to a place system. When the system works, it works great. If it’s not completely a situation where QB and WRs have the timing and exact routes run, the QB looks really bad. Second Winston stares down where he’s going with a pass. He believes in his huge arm strength to thread it in, but the guy could learn how to look off coverage.

Here’s another:

Some of the same criticisms. Except there are some interesting points about how Arians failed Winston. It seemed as though Arians tried to apply his system to Winston instead of playing to Winston’s strengths.

It reminded me of what Payton says all the time about his “system.” You build your offense around your QBs strengths instead of forcing him to adjust to your system.

I hope the best for winston. But you can’t fix stupid.

I think defenses will always be able to confuse Winston. Maybe have drew in his ear like Sean mcvay does to Goff 😂
You might be right about Winston. But the guy won a national title in college and was a big part of it. If he really is stupid, then that FSU team around him was among the very best to ever be assembled.

Just saying, there's equal evidence to suggest that his pro struggles are due to a combination of immaturity, mediocre surrounding cast, and inconsistent/subpar coaching and development rather than sheer stupidity.

I'm just not sure that can be repaired. He doesn't see the LB dropping underneath and when he misses down field he misses high which leads to a lot of picks. Then you get a bunch of bad decisions. It's like he makes his mind up presnap every time.

Stupid isn't Winston's issue.

What remains to be seen is if that's due to his nearsightedness and if LASIK has corrected that.

Dude threw for 5100 yards last season. This is the same guy that shattered records at FSU without those same eyes. Maybe when he gets his eyes fixed he won't be as good. That hole vision thing is a terrible excuse.

College defenses compared to NFL defenses is nothing comparable.

It’s a whole new ball game, which is why you see defensive and offensive college stars struggle in the nfl

Is Peyton Manning stupid? Because sure looked like they fixed his early careers stupids.
Manning had 28 interceptions his rookie season. He never threw more than 28 after that year. He definitely grew after his rookie season.... ya he had another year with higher picks than others but so does every QB
