Just like Michael Thomas (6.80), Emmanuel Sanders (6.60) and Adam Trautman (6.78), Krishawn Hogan has an elite 3-cone time with 6.74 at 6'3 220lbs

The Saints seem to be intentionally placing a premium on change of direction skills for most of their receiving targets.

They have been trying to find a true replacement for Marques Colston in the big slot role for a while now and may have found it in either Hogan or Johnson.

Even Johnson was tied for 2nd in the 3 cone this year at wide receiver with Aaron Parker of Rhode Island with 6.94.

Marques Colston was the last Saints wr to post a 6.94 3 cone at 230lbs.

The Saints secured the only two 230lb+ players with sub-7.00 second 3 cones on offense from the Combine in Trautman and Juwuan Johnson.

I’d also put Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s name in the mix for that Jumbo Slot position too. W/a year in the training room & a year of experience, i think he could be a sleeper.

I don't expect these players to be active on gamedays. Hogan had no impact last season and there is no reason to think he'll be more than what he was last season.

I would wait till training camp to make that determination. Hogan right now do have the advantage of getting game time experience and special team. Although he only had one target and not alot of snaps, he was active on game day. He was used primarily for blocking and was doing a good job. And you know how the coaches value good downfield blocking. But from what I saw of Hogan, given the chance he could be a a threat catching the ball. He runs hard and quick. But will see. Gosh on a side note, do you realize there will be nearly 3 months of no football? Training camp doesn't start till like third week of July and May have not started yet. Man...

Juwan Johnson. Massive hands. 34” arms. I bet he could build up speed and be going much faster that that 4.59. His legs are ridiculously long too. Incredible that he’s able to 3 cone that quickly.

Same size hands as MT.

Slightly faster than Willie Snead.

Same weight and 3 cone as Marques Colston.

On paper this bodes well for a big slot.

Humphrey had a Beast preseason last year.

He might definitely take a leap

I'm much more excited about Callaway than either Hogan or Johnson.

Hogan may have straight line speed, but he is NOT a fluid athlete. He's stiff as a board. I'd be shocked if he develops into anything more than a fringe roster, quality blocking WR.

Johnson does have some ability. I'd be interested in seeing how he progresses.

In all likelihood, there will be very little need for designated "big slot". With the addition of Sanders and Trautman, Jared Cook will be the Saints' big slot. What the Saints need is a WR that can make their own plays on the ball down the field. Hopefully Harris, and now Callaway, can help in that regard.

He looks pretty Fluid to me.

The issue with Hogan I think is that he will be entering his 4th year and is in a now or never situation and must finally produce bigtime in order to break the label as only a blocker or special teams ace.

I went back and looked at what film is available on Johnson. He really destroyed soft zone like Colston did and got good body position on a few plays in the redzone unlike Brandon Coleman. I was well aware of his measurables throughout the draft process but I liked several smaller true slot guys better.

The only big slot that I liked above him was Darrell Stewart who played lights out in the NFLPA game. I also liked Kristian Wilkerson who had the second best 3 cone at wr in the draft with a 6.68.

By signing Johnson, Hogan and Humphrey there seems to be some type of design at work to develop a big slot in my opinion.

As far as Calloway goes his play and measurables align more with former Vols wr Justin Hunter.

I don't expect much threat underneath from Calloway at this point but his downfiled potential looks promising.

I'm guessing Butler, Lil Jordan and Hogan may not be good enough to make our next roster. Though they may make the PS.....

Juwuan Johnson looks intriguing....

Everyone players look intriguing on you tube. I said the same thing to those players from last year and the players the year before. We really have to wait till training camp to really see what they capable of.

Yep, totally agreed. I think every year there are dozens of WR/TE prospects that have the size/measurables to play in the NFL.....but....they don't have the many skills/intangibles that the position demands.....

My guess is that Butler or Calloway will be the starting Split End, Thomas will start at Flank, Sanders will be slot with Johnson and Smith duking it out for #4.

Hogan and Humphrey might be the odd men out this time around.

Maybe because it was a lack of reliable receivers, but it seemed like MT was in the slot more than anyone. I was always under the impression it was for mismatches than anything.
