Not sure this was covered before, but on a whim I looked up the box score in this game.

A common narriative in this game is how Brett Farve was physically beaten up by the Saints Dline. So, I checked out the 'QB Hits' stat on pro football reference https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201001240nor.htm. Before looking at it, how many QB hits do you think the Saints registered on Brett Farve?

3

Conversely, how many QB hits did the Vikings register vs. Drew Brees?

10

Whats itneresting, I thought that McCray and Hargrove got to Farve at least once, but according to Pro Football reference, they didn't register a "hit' (though Hargrove's field is blank, so this possibly a mistake)

I assure you that McCray got to Favre more than once. šŸ˜‚ The NFL fined him for a couple of them.

Apparently for pro football reference, QB hit is only counted when QB "hits the ground" after the throw.

Hit: Times QBs were hit - occurs when the QB hits the ground after a throw, not marked on a sack play

Still, I think it says something that Brees was forced to the ground 10 times, vs. only 3 for Farve.[/quote]

Five turnovers, but yet we almost lost. We hit Farve a number of times during the game. But there was nothing unusual about how physical the game it was--it was a championship game where the level of play is watched up.

And ironically I think our best chance to will another Super Bowl was not 2018 when we lost the conference championship in overtime, but 2011 and 2017 when we we lost in the second round.

the turnovers were a bigger story than the hits IMO. 5 to 1 turnovers. Adrian Peterson helped us a lot in that game. And we actually coughed it up 3 times but only lost it once so that helped us a lot. IMO, if that game is in Minnesota then we are still looking for our first championship.

I donā€™t see us beating the Eagles that year. That was their destiny year like 2009 was for us

agree completely on our best shot. 2011 was certainly our best chance to be in a Superbowl, whether we would have won it or not. And the end of that San Fran game will always sting me worse than the rest. For the amount of time on the clock and distance, there was really only one guy we had to worry about. We let their best player beat us and that is a sin.

i think rams hurt because of the refs. saints 100% should've had gotten the penalty in their favor and we ice the game.

49ers game hurt because gregg williams blew it. amazing last 2-3 minutes of football there.

2017 is probably 3rd for me.

last year they just crapped the bed.

I remember Reggie fumbling right before half. The way the game was going back and forth I thought for sure that would be the difference. Then AD fumbled it right back to end the half.

The other casually overlooked statistic is the Vikings turned the ball over 5 times. You can't win on the road in a championship game by giving up that many change of possessions in one game. (Team Stats)

I don't care what anyone says, that Vikings team would've beaten the Colts if Favre could've played. 5 turnovers and we win in OT by a FG.

I totally agree on 2011... IMO the best Saints team ever,,,, But 2018 was stolen... We would have killed the Pats

Agree on all points... 2011 hurt the most... Well ok.. 2018 is another level of hurt... more PO'd....What an amazing game and yes Greg Williams blew that game at the end
