We all know that Mike Thomas is the best possession WR in the game and very possibly the best WR in the NFL. But he's not a burner. As Cook came on last year, he added another dimension to the passing game - but also not a disruptive receiver. As long as Kamara plays, we know there's not a better receiver at RB than Kamara - and up till now it doesn't sound like Kamara has plans to holdout. Sanders will be a superb addition adding smarts, great route running and some speed.

So what's missing? Not much, but in seeking the optimal offense, it would be a Tyreek Hill type player, a WR that can take it to the house on any play whether that be a WR screen, jet screen, end-around, quick slant or fly route if Brees can get him the ball far downfield. If Devonte Harris could develop a little more WR skills, it seems to me that he could provide some level of Tyreek Hill type disruption to defenses.

Do you think SP has plans to use Harris more at WR this year? If so, a little or lot? And specifically how? Thx

There was a whole thread about this the other day. The general consensus seemed to be that he is too small to get too much of a workload at receiver. I think he could be a part-time playmaker, if he polishes his route-running and receiving ability. We know how dangerous he is in space. Payton knows it, too, and I'm sure he will try to find ways to make it happen, but it'll be up to Harris to prove he's ready to take that leap.

Yes I believe he will use him more. The guy has been in the system for a year and he’s got some serious movement skills and vision. He’s just faster than everybody on the field

If Deonte can provide big plays on offense and the run game stays strong due to great O-line play, this offense will be very hard for opposing defenses to key on .

I can see Deonte being used most often in the second half when opposing defenses are exhausted by the Saints line and WRs working the secondary.

Here's what I posted when you asked me about him on the other thread:

Hey LC! Do you think Devonte Harris has the ability, given time and coaching, to fill a similar role as Hill? Thx

Anything is possible, but the 4 inch height difference is a huge deal. The most receiving yards in history by a WR under 5'7 (Harris is 5'6) is 2,860 yards - for an entire career. The most receiving yards in history by a WR 5'10 or under (Tyreek Hill's height) is in the tens of thousands, by a bunch of guys.

Look at these lists, there's not a precedent for guys under 5'7 doing much as WRs, where when you get into the 5'10 range, you'll see a lot of names you'll recognize:

Career Yardage Leaders - 5'7 or less

5'10 or less

There's just not a lot of history of guys that small being successful NFL WRs. It really looks like 5'9 is the smallest you can be and have a very successful NFL career as a WR. So if Harris does it at 5'6, he'll be the first in history.

Not to mention Tyreek has Olympic track athlete level physical talent. I mean that literally - he has timed runs in high school that would have placed him on Olympic podiums. Harris is fast, but I don't know if he's quite that fast.

But Harris, as far as we know, isn't a total trash can of a person, so give me Harris over Hill all day.

I would like to see what he can do on screens. For me, his best chance would be a joker RB. He would have to pass block though.

Good thought here. I wonder if he could find some space in packages similar to what the 9ers do with their WR whose name escapes me right now.

Deebo Samuel.

As for the OP question, I went to the inside source. I can't name him, but his call sign is Lazy Great Dane. He just smiled when I asked, and said that his lawn care buddies at UMASS had passed along word about seeing Devonte Hill-Harris getting secret practice snaps at their facility in March, repping wildcat QB and single wing spinback. Apparently the team is getting ready to raise his stock over the next year, ready to use him in a tag and trade for a #1 overall draft pick down the road.
