Animals is their best album.
Agree, personally. Meddle is great, I get the appeal. It's got a pure quality about it. The songs are great and the sound is still slightly raw - more rocking. But the next phase (the three pre-Wall) is just brilliant and if you're listening on vinyl, you gotta go with one of those three. I like Animals for just geeking out on the sound.
At worst Animals has their best song in Dogs.

I don't disagree with that, but Meddle is (imo) an underappreciated gem that's a good doorway to Floyd's best era. It has some more accessible songs (Fearless, San Tropez) while offering hints of what was to come (One of These Days, Echoes).Animals is their best album.
