Great memories.... (1 Viewer)

I remember that day like it was just yesterday. I was watching the game at home with my wife and I was pretty down that the Falcons were up 28-3 in the third. My wife tells me to just turn it off because the Falcons are most likely going to win. I look her dead in her eyes and tell her “babe, it ain’t over until it’s over”. At this point I’ve already had quite a few beers in me as the comeback began and unfortunately for my wife I became a loud obnoxious Pats fan throughout the rest of the game. It honestly felt almost as good as the Saints winning the Super Bowl and it wouldn’t have felt that good without the epic meltdown. Great memories!

cleaning up my old hard drives during this quarantine and I found that I have two pieces of Falcon schadenfreude

I have a copy of this Superbowl video. And I have an HTML save of their forum thread during our Superbowl. I cannot dispense with either. Although if I needed disk space I could trim the video to just the last third of the game because I will never watch the first two thirds again.

That game is still just bonkers to wrap your brain around.

Literally any single play in that game goes differently during that comeback and Atlanta wins the title.

That one catch Julio Jones made would have for sure been talked about a lot more if they had won

And it was in field goal range.... and they had one of the most automatic indoor kickers of all time!!!

How they went backwards after that and didn't even get to attempt the icing field goal is just bananas.

I think one of the most infrequently mentioned, yet for me fascinating, parts of that outcome is the fact that New England covered the spread as 3 point favorites.

Somewhere out there you know there was someone who ripped apart their Patriots betting slip in frustration at some point during the third quarter..... And by the same token, there was probably someone out there who made a major purchase online, assuming that it was pretty much a sure thing that they were about to have the cash to cover it.

I know exactly what you mean. When the Saints were sealing away the victory in SB44, I couldn't wait to pull up the SuperBowl thread on the Falcons Forum to read the meltdown firsthand so I could add to the joy I was already feeling! When the score was 28-3 in SB51, I remember the funk I was in while watching the mid part of the 3rd quarter and thinking about how the Atlanta fans were going to be trying to pile it on by trolling the SSF. When the Patriots completed the miraculous comeback I actually was resurrected from my funk. I was almost ashamed of myself for feeling so happy.

I did say, "almost". :hihi:
