DARK on Netflix (1 Viewer)

True, I watched Overlord with subtitles and caught a lot more background stuff.
Did you like Overlord? Have it, just haven’t watched it yet. I heard it is a pretty good WW2 movie then the horror begins in second half.

Wow the hype in this show. Never heard of it. What is the basic premise? Is it as sci fi horror show?

Oh man, this is such a great show. I watched the first two seasons early in the beginning of Covid land. I never watched the first two when they were released - will this be released in full, or one episode at a time?

Imma have to watch that season 2 recap to remember what happened and it's only been a couple of months. Can't imagine trying to remember all the intricacies if I last saw it a year ago.

All episodes available to binge. The family tree chart in the OP helped me a lot for both earlier seasons.

My wife didn't feel like rewatching the entire season 2 so she found this good written recap: https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/06/235074/netflix-dark-season-2-recap-episodes-summary

also one of the most compelling and consistent time travel stories I've ever seen

@James Spader ^ this, extraordinarily well written and for the complexity involved they don't get lazy with details or plot consistency. Because of course not, they're German, and Germans don't break rules and they engineer perfect things.

I will say, you absolutely cannot half-watch this show (I'm guilty of this with a lot of shows - farting around on the web while wathcing). You can't be on your phone surfing SR during this show, you have to pay attention the entire time or you'll miss stuff. But it's not hard to do, it'll keep your attention.

Why is the background soundtrack in English?

*sits on couch, head bowed*
*breathes deeply*
...finally...finished...

Seriously
Outside of Lost, I’ve never worked that hard on a tv show before
I actually wish that I attacked this show like I used to consume Lost (and all the side content)
Weirdly the denser the plot got, the more passive I became with the story
Season 3 I tried podcasts, tried reddit
at some point I just realized I was either going to rewatch s1&2 and have a Charlie Kelly conspiracy board or I was just going to let it wash over me

I opted for the latter
Still enjoyed the heck out of it and agree it’s the best time travel story told

i would just hearken back to "relationship George" vs " independent George" and his monologue ;)

Finished S1. What a dumb show. Cool concept. Good writing. Excellent acting. But

How you gonna have a whole season one happen and explain nothing and the finale ends with nothing changing whatsoever. So frustrating to watch episode after episode where nothing actually happens.

“hey you watched all 10 episodes? Congratulations. Nothing mattered at all. Nobody won. Nothing is saved. Hope you enjoyed your waste of time.”

just awful. By the end I wouldn’t have cared if everyone died and the whole town got wiped off the map just so something actually happened. I don’t think I‘ve got the time for season 2. Baseball and basketball are back and I don’t have endless time to waste on this nonsense.

Even “time is a flat circle” S1 of True Detective had the decency to actually have some
Closure.

It's hard for me to isolate season 1 from the rest of the series since I've watched it in its entirety. I do remember having a thought of "well that was a whole lot of nothing" in regards to a conclusion, but not even close to feeling it's a dumb show or that there's wasn't some universe building with constructive plot elements. I loved the story being told about the relationships and character motives.

I also had the luxury of not expecting much from a German Netflix show and being pleasantly surprised before it picked up some hype. If you didn't like season 1, then I wouldn't bother with the rest of the series. For me, this is a show I want to watch from beginning to end once more.
