DC's Batwoman (1 Viewer)

There was a Jeopardy question last night or the night before about Batwoman. Nobody answered correctly. One guy rang in and said "batgirl" but Alex denied him.

That's the other part of the issue with this show: she's hardly some beloved character. A Batgirl show would've been a much better choice because even if you went with a Barbara Gordon or Cassandra Cain version, both those have fans. Nobody cares about Kate Kane. Her hype was a decade and a half ago when she was the highest profile LBGTQ character at DC, but that's old news now. She never brought much to the table beyond that.

In fact, now I've made myself sad that we didn't get a Cassandra Cain Batgirl show. That could've been awesome. Of course, the CW would've just made it about who she was dating and added a generically attractive supporting cast of bland characters, so it doesn't matter.

Yeah, Batwoman hasn't been much since Greg Rucka wrote her story in Detective Comics.

Plus, I don't want Cass anywhere near the CW. She is too much of a badass to be watered down into shadow shadow of herself for the shippers of social media to get their hands on. If there's a show, it needs to be on DC Universe or HBO Max.

If you YouTube the Quartering, he has a couple of opinion pieces. I will warn, He leans conservative so many on here may not like them.

He does use Twitter and movies magazine but to support his opinion/theory,

Well, this will be interesting. I will assume some in the Twitterverse are raising hell.

I was already totally meh with Batwoman. This doesn't really get me any more interested.

I'll probably watch one episode...then move on to other things unless I'm convinced this is a step up from the Ruby Rose version which I wasn't a fan of to begin with.

So I was expecting them to go with another relative to keep the Alice dynamic, but this casting choice makes that unlikely without some convoluted explanation.

The Alice dynamic is pivotal to the show. In fact, it was the only good thing about it really. Maybe they make her someone who knew Alice? Maybe related to Sophie Moore?

It will be interesting to see where they go but if they lose the Alice dynamic I'll be tuning out.

Absolutely. Alice literally was the only character keeping me really interested in the show. She's a badass and I like the mind games she plays with people. Kinda like the Joker. Batwoman as a character...kinda lame tbh.

I disagree, I think the new actress showed more emotion in one episode than I've seen from Kate Kane in a whole season.

I dunno, the way she gets the suit, the fake Bruce, the boo hooing about Kate, and the opposite storytelling contrast between Kate and the new character just all felt too contrived. Alice is still Alice, so at least that's about the only good thing I could find in the first episode. It just felt too much like a cheesy teenage DC flick. I dunno, this just isn't in my wheelhouse.

That said, since there's nothing else fresh from DC right now, I'll give it another week or two.

And really, I have a pretty low bar for watching live action comics. I'm really not that hard to please, but this one it gonna have to do better.

And that was a crappy Batmobile reveal unless you like a certain sports car I'm not gonna spoil.

Fake Bruce got his tho. :hihi:

I've stuck with watching the show and it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. The new Batwoman seems to be into her role and the last couple of episodes have been alright. It's certainly nowhere near recent MCU shows, but for a CW DC show, it's decent enough.
