Star Wars 9 rise of sky walker [Spoilers] (1 Viewer)

My brother sent me the first article below (which contained links to the the two articles that follow). Not sure if there's any truth to it, but if so there are some big changes under way. The gist is that the sequel trilogy devalued Star Wars to the point they're ready to ret-con it into an alternate universe and then let George Lucas remake it his way. Seems kind of far fetched, but the trilogy was such an abysmal failure that I can't discount the possibility.

@Sun Wukong, you're usually on top of this type of stuff. What have you heard/read and what's your take?

Come on. Kathleen Kennedy did a fine job with Star Wars...

Seriously, though, this is interesting news if true.

Sounds like a fanboiz wet dream
With the success of Mandalorin and Clone Wars, I’m pretty sure they have the team in place that they want to lead

I don't believe any of those rumors, but I don't think JJ Abrams would be a real improvement. He doesn't seem to "get" Star Wars or what makes it special either.

If they get rid of Kennedy, which I hope they do, I'd like to see Favreau or Filoni (or both) at the helm. They seem to be the only two who really get it. In fact, I think they get it better than Lucas does anymore. They could realign post Rise of Skywalker for additional stories and there's a lot of story to mine between RotJ and TFA.

Not JJ Abrams though, please.

Does Doomcock have any kind of track record in being right on these kinds of rumors?

IMO Kennedy leaving would be an obvious move with the lack of success in the trilogy and the critical acclaim for The Mandalorian and Clone Wars season 7. Both of which seem to have minimal input from her. But Lucas taking over? Didn't Iger kinda brag that he had ignored Lucas. Does Lucas even want to take over Lucasfilm at his age and put up with the corp shrills?

In all honesty, I want it to be true. I have no problems with the acting in the last trilogy but the stories got progressively bad. However, how do your redo everything when Fisher has passed and Ford is VERY unlikely to do anything else for the franchise?

That's what the rumors are claiming -- that JJ and KK are gone with Favreau taking the reins with an assist from Lucas and Filoni. I agree that remaking the ST seems far fetched, but if they did I'd definitely buy a ticket.

Just set it 50+ years after ROTJ.

I think this would be a terrible idea at this point.

They made a mistake with the follow-on trilogy (and honestly the prequels as well). But ret-conning it will never happen - you'll never get Harrison Ford to reprise his role again, Carrie Fisher is dead and I doubt Mark Hamill will do it without those two. Even if you could, I think it would be a dumb idea.

Just start telling some good stories set in this universe. The Mandalorian is good. They can build off this. You have Ezra Bridger off somewhere, you can tell stories about him to continue the mythology of the force, along with Ashoka.

I do think Favreau taking over SW would be an outstanding move. Even Lucas taking over with Favreau running things or being an heir apparent would be great.

That’s been a given (well, VERY close to a given) for almost a year now

I would just start over and do an entirely recast and redone Star Wars. Keep the story, but tell it in a different way and this rebranded SW maybe does better than the first go around.

But...eh...never happen.

Funny thing, Ezra is the exact same age as Luke and Leia (He was born on Empire Day). You could very well tell the story of rebuilding the Jedi with him in the same way they should have with Luke. Heck, they could even claim his exile was spent with Yoda on Dagobah then he went off to the Unkown Regions to better study the nature of the Force. He returns, realizes Rey is a Mary Sue tainted by the Darkside and takes the lead in building a new Jedi Order.

OK, maybe not the Mary Sue part, but the rest could work.

False. 3 is far superior to any of the sequels.

Yes, and while the story, acting, and God awful dialogue of 1-3 sucked at least it felt like Star Wars and had some originality, good bad guys and great action.

7-9 had all of the shortcomings of 1-3 (minus the bad acting) and none of the good parts.
