Wonder if the SEC and then NFL follow suit. Thoughts?

The NFL will go on. The thing that canceled CFB is the thing that the NCAA has refused to fix. They don’t pay the players. You can’t ask someone to play when school is canceled when you play for free already.

The lie that is college sports' student athlete. You can't say students are here for school first and sports are secondary if your campus is closed except for sports.

I expect the other P5 conferences to follow suit. You can't have a legit national champion with only 3 of the P5 conferences. I think it should be postponed or canceled. This isn't professional football. These are college kids who don't get paid. High school football should be pushed to the spring.

I absolutely understand the reasons for cancelling and suspect the SEC and any other outliers will follow suit. Too many unknowns before us! I have to say however that this news is a huge bummer. We continue to be in various stages of lockdown and now one of the only outlets left, sports, specifically NCAA football (and perhaps the NFL) is probably gone. I have looked forward these last couple of months to an easing of the COVID pandemic AND the anticipated start of NCAA and NFL Football, but now nothing!!!

You can’t group the NCAA with the pro sports. The NCAA has so much more to deal with.

Jack, they do for sure, but all it is going to take in the NFL will be teams with significant COVID issues not being able to field a team on given weekends. I sure hope that is not the case, but major league baseball has been the poster child on what not to do! In short, it is a total mess and I don't think any of us can predict what things will look like sports wise in December!

Even then it’s hard to compare the NFL to MLB. The majority of the teams in baseball have completed 13-17 games. Only three teams have played 10 games. In a normal season, I’ve seen that difference due to rain delays. There’s only one team that’s really been hit, the St. Louis Cardinals since they’ve only played 5 games.

I'm going to miss football, but this is the right thing to do. It would be in no way fair to have these unpaid students putting their lives on the line for a sport.

Maryland was going to stink anyway....:hihi: j/k

As I drove back from the gym this morning, I pulled over to watch the New Braunfels High football team practice. There were zero spacial limitations. It looked like practice as usual, face to face. They were not tackling today, but the lines were nose to nose running drills. Texas High football is serious with the parents. A few years back, the school laid off 15 teachers so they could afford new color themed Astro type turf for the field.

The NFL will go on.

Exactly.

NFL and college football may as well play two different sports on two different planets wrt how the pandemic will impact them. Can’t draw any parallel.

And yet MLB is still playing. They may have to decide to base final standings on winning % rather than the usual games ahead/behind, but it would take a massive, multi-team outbreak for them to cancel the postseason.

And the NFL has even more motivation to push forward.

It's not worth risking the health of kids over a game. They should push it to spring and then re-evaluate and cancel if necessary.
