Star Wars 9 rise of sky walker [Spoilers] (1 Viewer)

finally watched it sunday. its ok. decent movie to just watch. turn brain off, not think about stuff. def not one of the best SW movies.

After listening to Dave Filoni and Favreau talk Star Wars, I just feel a loss of what could have been.

I didn't hate the sequels (and I really disliked the prequels)... but they were such a wasted opportunity.
I was watching the gallery on making the Mandalorian.

At the end of the 2nd or 3rd episode, it ends with Filoni talking about why the Darth maul fight was so critical to the franchise story and how it leads to Anakin saving Luke by being the father he never had.

The depth and specifics he was discussing had the entire table silent and in awe. You can see this wonderful warm smile on Favreau's face. I am reading his thoughts (likely wrong) as a combination of "I so nailed this hiring" and "he's the guy for the next project".

The stuff he was mentioning about Qui Gon Jinn... being ahead of the idea of attachment not necessarily being a bad thing. The importance of all life.

I had a thread about the fact that I never watched anything beyond what is now "A New Hope" when I was a child. Oddly enough when I picked up Disney in like January and starting watching the whole thing in order, I didn't even know that this one was on at the movies. So when I finished watching all of them I went to the movies on my off day and watched it. I just re-watched it again and I honestly liked it. I watched everything that Disney had and I can say that the only things in the series worth watching again are 7,8,9 Mandolorian series and Rogue One. And the first one I guess because it was fresh at the time but I'm probably never watching it again. From the standpoint of someone who didn't catch the rest when "you had to be there" the rest of them as well as the Solo stand alone are pretty pitiful.

We discussed a lot of this in The Mandalorian thread. Filoni just 'gets it' on a completely different level.

I knew it was somewhere, I just couldn't remember which one.

sw is ultimately about families?

other than ewoks, the characters of sw are about as afamilial as one could imagine. everybody's a loner, a crook, an orphan or a pariah

the "gets it" guy is whack :freak7:

7, 8, 9? Were you high when you watched those? 7 is bearable despite being an obvious rehash/ripoff of the original film, but 8 and 9 make the Prequels seem like masterpieces - and the prequels are terrible. I think episodes 2, 8, and 9 are so bad they are unbearable to watch. My daughter got nearly halfway through 9 before she said she couldn't take any more and left, declaring that "unbelievably" it was even worse than episode 8.

Wait, huh?

The story has expanded, but the core of it is still about Luke saving his father. That was bigger to him than saving the Rebellion or the galaxy. The only thing that nearly stopped him from doing that was protecting his sister.

Han’s story is literally about going from being Solo to having a family he’s willing to die for, and ultimately does.

I could go down the list but literally every single major character arc in the series is about family.

yes. well again I didn't grow up on the movies, one is the only one I saw. So I didn't have a huge attachment to the characters or the story (so staying true to the story wasn't as important to me) For me "Luke I am your father" is still Tommy Boy lol. And I am not a huge SciFi guy. Admittedly 8 was pretty week. But I did like the way they did Luke's role. 7, I liked the fact that they stepped out of previous molds. I thought personalizing a Storm Trooper was cool. None in the series are as good as the Mandolorian though. And I felt Rogue One was probably better than the rest too. No neat happy ending etc. And no I was not high and therein could lie the problem.

Could not find the Solo thread, but I thought this was pretty cool. It's too bad they did not make the real movie like this. That really would have been a game-changer for it.

What a hilariously wrong post. Like maybe the most wrong anyone has ever been about anything ever. Literally that wrong. The only way this level of wrongness would be excusable is if you admitted you hadn't actually watched the series.
