Ending the scourge of gender-reveal parties (2 Viewers)

There is no problem with trying to make a wedding proposal or gender reveal special. It can be done without causing the apocalypse
I got down on one knee in the middle of J Alexander back in 2005 after 2 gulped down martinis for courage
i was engaged once my fiancee/wife saw the large amount spent on her ring on my bank statement (same day).

i literally just walked in the house greeted by "where is it?????" at least saved me the effort of having to propose.

"Gender-reveal responsibly"?

Clearly the problem is not with the gender-reveal party concept - it is with the need to use dangerous mechanisms to do it. Why does it have to involve explosions or alligators?

I am starting to wonder if Carole Baskin's husband was a gender reveal party casualty...

I dont see why it would've been so difficult to tell your close family members, co-workers, relatives this sort of announcement at your home or since there's a pandemic going on, invite some people over, tell them to wear masks at all times and stay at least 6 feet away from each other and if they dont follow them, kindly invite them to leave or scold them firmly but politely. Use the butt crevasse, GTFU NOW approach only as a last-second measure.
It’s just the flu

At least two large wildfires have now been started by gender-reveal parties. People have died over gender-reveal explosions gone-wrong. How did we get here? What does this say about us as people? Are we that needy that this oddly celebrated “life event” needs to involve shooting things into the air, or blowing stuff up?

Even if you accept the idea that it’s fun and memorable to share this moment that has historically not been a thing people did with a party, how did we go from ‘seeing what color the cake is’ to ‘aerial incendiaries’? Are people that forking needy?

I think this needs a PSA campaign, sort of like ‘give a hoot, don’t pollute’ - any ideas?

The thing I don't get is why it's such a big deal? I mean, are you not going to love the kid if it's one gender or another? What is there to celebrate really? Modern conceptions of being binary aside, there are only two choices. It was always going to be one or the other and, in the end it doesn't matter which one it is.

This can be said about any trivial thing anyone does that brings them enjoyment.
It can be said about celebrating a football team winning a game.

Yeah, but for something like football, it's the process that gets you there that is exciting. It's the number of years and amount of money you have spent supporting that team that has built up to the point of the win. Is anyone really a "fan" of their child being one gender or the other? I mean, I guess some people want one or the other, but I don't really think people get P'Oed if their side loses and want to fire the sperm coach.

In short, this isn't winning or losing. It's just finding out a biological fact (again, ignoring modern conceptions for sake of no argument). If people want to celebrate it or reveal gender in some dramatic way, I don't really care. But, it does appear that it's apparently been getting out of hand and becoming dangerous. And, I hope people I know don't expect me to participate in such nonsense. And FWIW, I've never been to any sort of gender reveal event and, to my knowledge, don't know anyone who has had one.

Yeah, after thinking about it, I don't see why it's a problem to mark the occasion - it's actually a pretty meaningful moment for the most part.

But why the explosions, why the danger? Perhaps it's "toxic masculinity"?

I think gender reveal parties are mostly women's ideas. I have yet to meet a man expecting a baby that wanted a gender reveal party. I've been to a few and on all occasions, we ended up in a group of men away from the crowd including the father-to-be questioning why all this time and money is being spent on it.
