Im looking at a property currently on the Corner of Amelia and Magnolia.
Has anyone lived in this area? Im out of town so I would be moving from Mississippi for a new job possibly.

That’s a dicey area. I can think of at least 3 shootings in the Claiborne /Louisiana /Toladano/Washington area in the last few months.

What are the questions
It’s definitely a transitional (for lack of a better word) neighborhood, but I think more safe than not
Further downtown (central city), and across Claiborne (Hoffman triangle) are a bit sketchier

Whether you should live there or not depends on if you want to pioneer or not. There are some very nice areas nearby, but they will cost more.

That location is kind of right at the border of bad areas and good areas. I personally, would not want to live between Claiborne and St. Charles between Napoleon and Downtown. The location you are talking about is right on the edge of Central City which is one of the worst areas for crime in the city. If you want to live in that area, I would personally look between Napoleon and the River. If you are between Napoleon and Downtown, I would want to be closer to St. Charles. Ideally somewhere between St. Charles and the River.

Of course, these are very fine lines one block one way or the other makes all the difference in that area of the City. But, overall that area is one of the less safe areas of the City. That being said, you could very likely live there with no issues. But, from a risk point of view, I'd say that is a higher risk area than other places nearby.

By the way, Guido probably has more up to date information on the area than I do. I used to drive through that neighborhood regularly, but it's been a few years since I was around there consistently. Of course, I haven't really been anywhere in the last 6 months.

A friend of mine lives a few blocks from there and while it is "transitional", it is getting better and he hasn’t had any problems.
