Interesting article about how hard it is to win a single SB these days and even moreso to win multiple. I feel bad for us Saints fans, but now I feel some sorrow for Pack fans, 3 NFC title games in the last 6 years and no SBs.

Since their Super Bowl victories, Rodgers and the Packers are 6-7 in the postseason with the three NFC Championship Game appearances, while Brees and the Saints are 4-6 with one trip to the NFC title game.

But when asked if he is surprised by their Super Bowl droughts, NBC analyst and Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy said, "Not really. Because people think it's easy. But so many things have to go right for you."

Unfortunately, the Saints might actually have the Packers beaten when it comes to gut-wrenching playoff exits. Last season it was an overtime playoff loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round. The season before that it was the missed pass interference call against the Los Angeles Rams when the Saints were minutes away from winning the NFC Championship Game in the Superdome. And the season before that it was the "Minneapolis Miracle" in the divisional round at Minnesota

"It's not fair [QBs are judged by Super Bowls]. But we don't live in a fair world, and playing quarterback in the NFL is not for people who want that," said ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky. "Listen, this a very black and white and easy statement for me: Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are two of the greatest players and quarterbacks that have ever played the position.

Touch to Win Multiple SBs at QB

I'll take a stab for Brees:

1. Historically bad defenses
2. Sham called Bountygate
3. Greg Williams inability to scheme coverage for a tight end
4. Infamous no-call

I am confident that had #4 not happened then Brees would have another ring
Had #3 not happened then I think the Saints at least make it to the Superbowl

Football is the ultimate team sport. A lot has to happen to win a Superbowl you even need a little bit of luck. In that NFL Championship game against the Vikings, prior to the Brett Favre interception the Vikings got a 12 men in the huddle penalty. This penalty pushed them out of FG range and they had to throw.

I agree. Luck has always been a factor, but moreso in the FA era. Earlier dynasties needed luck as well. If Jackie Smith doesn't
drop that TD in SB 13 and Nolan Cromwell doesn't drop that easy pick six in SB 14, Terry Bradshaw may have 2 rings instead of 4.

You're right, all it takes is a penalty.,dropped pass, no call etc. to end a magical season.

I would add Brees has had plenty of unclutch playoff performances with turning the ball over.

It's a tall mountain to climb. Many have died attempting to summit Mt. Everest. One slip and you're gone.

The NFL is really no different.

Its a team sport and luck/officiating/cheating/bs PI rules/judgement play a much bigger factor than most would like to admit....

Great response. When they bring up rings this is my argument. With any luck at all Drew would have 3. Likely 4. Rings. Plus the faux goat had a cupcake division throughout his career. Until now
