Taysom (1 Viewer)

No... I still think Taysom needs more touches, and has special traits that we don't take enough advantage of... On several occasions we have seen that he can be the best player on the field... and that he can absolutely make an opposing defense completely change/adjust just by his presence on the field...

The main issue I see with him right now is what Sean is doing with him... The play calling is super predictable (almost exclusively read-option with him keeping no matter what the box count or read dictates).... Having Drew in the game with Taysom at QB is pointless... It just gives the defense an extra defender, because no one has to defend Drew on the perimeter. Sean needs to use him on power runs off tackle from the QB position with Drew on the bench more... He also needs to give him a run pass option on nearly every play he runs from the QB position...

Right now the tendency is heavy run from the read option look - while allowing an extra defender in the box because Drew is in the game... It's the complete opposite of what we should be doing with him... It kills his versatility, and limits what makes him special (speed and power - with the threat of a pass).

Here’s irony for you: everyone saying defenses have been playing close to the line on Drew(they aren’t), keep ignoring that the QB defenses aren’t respecting is actually Taysom.

That’s on Sean. He’s got to find a way to let Taysom rip it, without screwing up the flow of the game. Hopefully, Coach figures it out, because TH is getting blown up lately.

Like all trick plays and formations, NFL defenses will figure them out. It appears Taysom has been figured out. Payton must evolve with defenses or those snaps will be wasted.

I don't know how you give him the reps he needs without taking Drew out a rhythm, the offseason and no preseason may have stunted his growth.

Who knows if his usage would be different had he not fumbled his chance in game 3 and game 4? Both of those plays could have been set up plays for the stuff people are calling for.

Both of those plays are examples of what I am describing... read option.... Brees on the field... Defense selling out and in the backfield before the play can even develop... you can tell that's it's effecting Taysom's ability to execute the fake, his ability to keep his eyes up and on the snap, read the defensive end, and generally handle the ball cleanly.... the predictability of this play, and how the defense is reacting to it... is why it's not clean anymore, and why Taysom is clearly no longer comfortable running it. (he looks fine doing everything else but this predictable read option play)

Taysom isn’t playing well AT ALL this season! He’s not getting open from what I can see, not making plays like we’re used to. Fumbled the game away last week and nearly did it once again. Sean Payton needs to sit him for a few weeks and let him get hungry again to make plays, seems he isn’t hungry.

I honestly thought for the amount of money we paid taysom he would play 20-25% of the snaps.
since his fumble last week, he doesn’t look as comfortable as he normally would be under center. He does look comfortable at a te or special teams. I didn’t like seeing ak return punts either. I thought taysom would help with that too.

Against GB, he got a pass and a wide open receiver right in front of him. He looked right at him, hesitated, ran around, and lost yards. He’s just not decisive enough as a QB.

I agree, but that hesitation may be related to the way he's being coached (over coached?).

My guess is they've told him, "don't take a risk" which has completely taken away his mojo and, as has been pointed out, made it easy for defenses to pin their ears back and attack the run. He just looks like a much more hesitant player this year, which leads to more mistakes.

My point is I don't think he's hesitant due to lack of QB talent (although his floor and ceiling are big unknowns); I think it's coaching and situational usage.

If they're not willing to let him be a QB, don't waste a down with him in that role for the rest of the year.

For at least one play a game I’d love to see Taysom take the snap and pull a Tebow. Tuck the ball and take a step or two like he’s about to run then pull up and launch it deep Harris/TQS/AK. The Defense will not see this coming as they are all so used to him doing the same zone read every time.

I wouldn't count pass attempts to determine pass plays by him. There have been several times that he looks at the coverage, doesn't like it and runs.
