RIP Eddie Van Halen (1 Viewer)

Just awful news.

RIP

Damn you 2020

A couple of comments about Eddie Van Halen the guitar player. These are obvious, everyone knows this, but just feels appropriate to say it.

- He invented a style of rock/metal guitar lead that was all his own, both in tone technique, no one had played guitar like that before. And it was so wildly appealing that generations of guitar players (and contemporaries) wanted to play like him, spent years trying to emulate him. Few musicians can truly lay claim to that in a lifetime, but Eddie Van Halen is one of them.

- He did it with such ease and comfort. He almost appears nonchalant about it when he's just shredding solos - as if his mind, soul, and hands were way ahead of the beat, just waiting for it to catch up. Maybe that's actually what was going on, but it is remarkable.

RIP Legend.

I truly did not expect that. I was brought up on Country music. His was the work that drew me into Rock. RIP

Sammy Hagar said he (Sammy) would work on a guitar solo for months & play it front of Eddie, staring intensely at his fingers & breaking into a sweat he was concentrating so hard. Then Eddie, after one listen, would play it back for him, note for note, with a big smile on his face, never looking at his fingers & would make it sound better, pretty much replicating a scene from Amadeus.
