Seriously, after watching it again, how is it even humanly possible that he made that tackle on Williams? Pure luck? Pure will?

Williams is massive and had all the forward leverage. Lattimore deserved a game ball just for that feat. He must be much stronger than I thought.

Pure will. I think the frustration of the prior 2.90 hours put him in a frame of mind that it just wasnt going to happen.

Couple that with Williams never had his momentum toward 1st down- he was parallel and never had the chance to turn it upfield.

It was a truly fantastic tackle. Curled him up to where he couldnt even reach the ball out ( because had he, it woulda been 1st down )

Especially after Demario came up from behind and almost pushed Williams across the first down line.

With how much Lattimore is struggling in coverage this year, he’s been an elite tackler for a DB. There’s been a few times in his career he’s stopped first downs and touchdowns by himself when the runner looked like they were easily going to make it.

The two the stick out most were when he somehow kept Julio Jones out of the end zone when he caught the ball with half his body inside the end zone, and the other (I forget the game) the TE caught the ball at the 3 with momentum to just run it in and somehow Lattimore tripped him up and stopped him short when a player that big should have been able to just fall forward into the end zone.

Watching it, I thought for sure that Demario Davis was going to push him forward for the first down but I think Davis realized what was about to happen, stopped pushing, and slid off Williams' back. That makes what Lattimore did even more impressive. He had to not only pull Williams who is a large man, but Demario Davis' weight to. And he had to absorb the force of the initial hit by Davis.

Lattimore has supreme physical ability. He just has mental lapses. Like the big play he gave up, he came up in the press position but didn't press. You learn in high school not to do that.

I posted comments on the Latt's tackle in another thread.

I'd say its a combo ...pure will and strength. Marshon is a very strong young man. Look at some of the tackles he's made on Evans over the years.

Outstanding effort though.

Lattimore has been in the NFL for 3 offseasons. 3 years of an NFL weight room. Williams basically has none since COVID took away this year. It just goes to show the step from NCAA to the NFL is a lot bigger than most people think.

I agree, when he is motivated and focused he can make plays. We all know he has tremendous ability which is why it is so frustrating/head-scratching that he under performs so frequently....
