Saints should start Jameis over Brees during an 'easy' 4-game stretch - Domonique Foxworth (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't bench Drew Brees for anyone in the league right now. It's more than likely his last year and he's not playing like sheet. He's not why we're losing. Why risk that on someone untested and unproven in this offense?

As far as any assumptions you may have, I don't think anybody is saying Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson can't ball out.

We're not talking about "benching" Drew Brees right now. But if you wouldn't bench him for "anyone" in the hypothetical then you're a super Brees fan for sure.

I love Brees. In his last year, as strong of a team leader he's been and how much of a hand he's put into making this offense be what it is? I'd just find it disrespectful to do it. If he was playing like he deserves to be benched? Yeah I'd want him benched. If he was a FA and we had a choice between Brees and a better QB I'd want a better QB. But to flat out bench him? No.

I agree, with a winning record it's way too soon to talk about benching him. Resting him for later ala Payton Manning is what this article is suggesting though.

Having said that, the last two wins have been ugly come-from-behind dumpster fires in what were supposed to be gimme's. Where Brees struggled to get it together in the first half. If we start losing, well, the season is more important than one man.

Logic is flawed.

Drew had 5 games off last season and was criticized as exhausted in playoffs.

How will 4 games this year be better?
That exhausted thing is so overblown and has absolutely no truth to it. Ask Drew and he'll probably laugh in your face.

The offensive line invariably plays poorly in the playoffs (compared to the regular season) and is the crux of our problems on offense.

My problem with this line of though is Taysom Hill is our #2 not Winston. What makes a one think SP would go back on s word to Hil!
Well, because TH isn’t really number 2. Plus SP has has “common sense “

Embarrassing Saints fan logic, found right here on the SSF in the last couple of years:

"Let's sign a petition and file a lawsuit over the unfair outcome of a playoff game! They should restart the game in the 4th quarter, even though it's been like 4 days after the game has ended!"

"It's time to hand it over to Taysom Hill, because he completed that one pass downfield against the Vikings in the playoff game...... plus he ran around a lot and it was pretty exciting. Therefore, he's ready to be a 16-game starter!!"

"Remember how we went 5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater last year? I bet the same thing could totally happen with another former starting QB on our team this year!"

"Remember that time Gary Kubiak benched Peyton Manning for some games after he completed 5 of 20 passes and threw 4 interceptions in the same game ???? Therefore, the clear and obvious blueprint to winning a Super Bowl with a future Hall of Fame quarterback at the end of his career is to bench him for multiple games......whether his play actually warrants it or not!"

If Jameis goes 4-0 during stretch and lights it up, I don't think Drew gets his job back.
And monkeys and donkeys can fly.

Jameis going 4-0 as a pee-wee league QB, would be momentous, much less 4-0 in a 4 game stretch of NFL games. And anyone else suggesting we start Hill the next 4 games, is equally dumb!

I know Drew is not the same QB he once was and I have been very critical of that fact. BUT, it is more on the coaching staff, he is still the QB. The fact this staff has done ZERO, to draft the heir to Drew, is where the fault lies.

Drew, unfortunately, is the best we have ATM. We need to live and deal with it.

There's a LOT of truth to it. There's a reason almost everyone says it, because they see it in his throwing and energy. Also no competitive man like Drew would admit his own failings, so nope not gonna "ask Drew" about this one.
