Judging each present and past athlete in their prime where would Michael Thomas rank as a a franchise receiver?

Personally I have him behind players like a Larry Fitzgerald, a Steve Smith , Marvin Harrison, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson.

Actually I can think of a lot of wide receivers from the past who were better players, but didn’t fill up all the cap space Thomas does. i know this board loves him and Rightfully so. The guy competes and produces. No doubt about that. However, thinking long term, is he worth the franchise money we paid him ? when you go back through history you realize there were a lot of great receivers who didn’t win titles.

It seems like if you want to grade if he is worth his count toward the salary cap, then you have to limit comparisons to active players. The game has changed negotiations set new precedents and the way positions are valued change in the NFL. So if you have one of those players you have to pay according to where they slot or let them walk. Compared to the other receivers getting that kind of money, I would take CGM every day and twice on Sundays.

Way too soon

I would not put him in Canton just yet. Part of being great and having a Hall of Fame career is producing for an extended period of time. He obviously has an outstanding start, but injuries, attitude, etc could impact him. Lets however hope that he can continue to produce, that his issues will go away with more maturity and that he can keep away from career ending injuries!
