More evidence of how good LSU was last year (1 Viewer)

lol but doubt last year could ever be topped though not unless those Mannings and Brees kids come to LSU lol then we could have a shot

I dont think we ever replicate 2019.

So many things simply "came together" - Brady as Passing game coord ( and what SEC had never seen executed with the level and precision LSU did ) Burrow finding his NFL self...CEH just maturing into his NFL self, JJ, Marshall and Chase becoming superstars. Defense playing tight as a unit and the emergence of stud CB. Both SEC and Playoff games were over by halftime.

Its why 2020 isnt that big of a downer because i got to witness ( just as i did in 2009 with Saints ) arguably the best season of LSU football ill ever see.

There will be generations after us that NEVER see that as it unfolds. They can watch film, but to see it happening. That was truly magical.

Yeah, it really was a perfect storm of a season. Good as it gets.

I would never expect us to replicate 2019 dominance but it is concerning how LSU couldn't just reload and be strong in the hunt for 2020. I'm not saying winning it all in 2020 but LSU was never clearly in the hunt this year. Despite having a historic run last season, the program is still not on the level of Bama and as of late, Clemson, its not even close, that is how disappointing it is. Alabama doesn't have "rebuilding years" they reload, are always in the hunt until the bitter end.

This is why LSU fans need to appreciate our championships far more than any other championship team. Those guys live at the top. We just get to visit the throne every once in a while. LSU will never be like Alabama or Clemson is right now. But we will be so much happier on those rare occasions that we get to raise the trophy.

I don’t know why you think Clemson has cemented their position as some kind of untouchable CFB royalty compared to LSU.

They are on a great run, currently in that highest echelon with Bama.

BUT

Think about this: they play in a much weaker conference, so they have an easier path to the playoffs every year. This could change if Miami or FSU get lucky with a HC hire.

And how do you think they would look playing an SEC schedule after 4/5 of their starters were in the NFL instead of playing for Clemson?

And their offensive guru and defensive coordinators both had to be replaced in the offseason?

And there were a couple of bad hurricanes that disrupted their home lives?

And even though every team in the country is dealing with the added complexity of a season disrupted by a pandemic, any continuity in a program is an advantage at this time, so having such a large number of factors being affected by this additional component surely must be another huge disadvantage.

Yeah LSU is not a great team this year. I think Pelini’s and Ensminger’s playcalling have sucked quite a lot. And Orgeron came across like a dumbarse when he said our defense looked better than at any time last year. Just a stupid stupid thing to say.

But you can’t look at this season as anything besides an aberration at this point. Judging by championships, the LSU Tigers have proven to be second only to Alabama over the last 20 years. Period. I think only looking back after a few years can we know the ultimate direction of the program.

You're right. Clemson is nowhere near where Alabama is over the last 20 years. Clemson is obviously on a great run right now. And prior to Saban's move to Tuscaloosa you have to go back to the Bear Bryant years to find such dominance from Bama. I'm just aggravated that LSU cannot ever have such a great run of their own. It's taken 17 years and three different coaches for LSU to win their last three national titles, after which it's like we have to start all over again to find another winning combination.

I know that I shouldn't be comparing LSU to the best regime that has existed in recent college football history. But I do so because I see LSU as being capable of doing the same thing if they could just get the right people running the show. However, every successful year for LSU just turns out to be a flash in the pan. From a success (winning percentage) standpoint, the LSU football program is still better than most other programs around the country. But I don't want to see LSU resting on the laurels of the 2019 championship only to have us hanging out with all the other wannabes for another decade or so trying to find the next Joe Burrow to make us legitimate once again. Great programs must be bigger than having to find the right kid to make your team look like a real contender again.

I want coaching that can make our above-average yearly recruits play like they have a real shot at the title every year. I'm giving our new staff a pass this season because of this pandemic year... not because of tropical systems. If the Bo & Ensminger train keeps falling off the track, then Orgeron is going to need to find more than stupid one-liners to make me believe that he knows what he is doing as the head coach. Yes, his quip about the 2020 defense ranks among the worse line I've ever heard uttered by any head coach ever before. It only tends to reveal how little he actually knows about running the show.

I get it. Saban’s run at Bama doesn’t seem fair. After all, he was OUR coach (and before that, Spartans’). They seem like an exception—and they might as well be right now.

But I remember Mike Price and Denny Franchione and Mike Shula.

I also remember Gerry Dinardo and Lou Tepper.

I’m not saying that things can’t take a turn for the worse for various reasons. But I mean when I say that I would not trade the last 20 years of LSU football for any other program. Who can compare to our success? Ohio State? Nope. Clemson? Actually no. Oklahoma? Hahahaha. And we have beaten all of them for National championships in this era. So, who?

Bama has how many national championships in 13 years of Saban? Ok, a handful. LSU has 2 with another 3rd robbed from us by that very Bama team. Think about how remarkable it is that the two top programs for championships have to go through each other every year in the same division. I think that says so much.

I still hate Bama. :hihi:
