How can O sit this kid after the stellar performance he had against South Carolina?
Crossing routes, roll-out passes, bubble screens, short passes into the flat, hitch routes, and slants were all a part of LSU’s game plan. None of it is all that surprising. It’s just how crisp and consistent Finley and skill position players executed.

All parties involved deserve credit. It was well devised with formations and route combinations, and certainly carried out well. From this foundation, LSU can truly expand the play book and build Finley’s game even more. It’s exciting to think what the Tigers can do this season and beyond.

LSU football has a young gunslinger. LSU football fans have something special to look forward to watching.

I'm just imagining how nice we're situated at QB for the three-four years! And supposedly, Max Johnson didn't start because of only two plays in practice where Finley did better than him, which means we probably have not one, but two dynamite talents at QB vying for the starting job next year (and possibly beyond if other one stays with us when he doesn't win that starting job).
What a refreshing change!!

But Brennan has earned the right to start (sarcasm) - I never understood this mindset, the best player should play no matter the circumstances. While I'm not a big SI fan this is a pretty spot-on analysis. It's what I've been alluding to in previous posts, it is not just his one (great) performance, look at the mechanics of both QB's. Finley has a quicker release which enables quicker decisions/plays. Brennan appears to be a quality college QB but his mechanics are not anywhere near as polished as this freshman.

If the LSU coaching staff does go with Finley (which I think they should but probably won't) he will definitely make some mistakes but I also think he will improve and next year could be a real force. I just don't see Brennan having anywhere near that kind of upside...

That's a fair point, but Brennan has played very well. He certainly hasn't done anything to "lose the job". Our losses are strictly on the shoulders of the defense, though one could make an argument against the offensive line in the running game. Miles' play at QB has been excellent, though you are correct in saying Finley's mechanics appear to be superior (I say appear since we're only judging on one game).

I was impressed with Finley but have to say the running game and pass protection was also at its best so far this season last game....

Looks like O riding Finley into Auburn game.

As good as Finley looked last week, he looked every bit the freshman deer in the headlights today. That's okay; it's to be expected. And after all, Auburn got to have film on him from last week to study.
Now comes the real test of him as a player. What does he learn from the mistakes he made today?

In the meantime, Miles probably will be cleared to return next week, which should give the team a lift. Hopefully enough of one to get them on a better track.

It didn't help that Auburn's defense was in Finley's face more that his mouthpiece.
Yes, LSU's defensive backs is as confused as a cat chasing a laser pointer, but neither the offensive or defensive line had a clue how to go their jobs either.

The only question is whether I should take the over or under for Alabama total yards in two weeks. I'm sure it will be somewhere around 800 by kickoff time. :covri:

Until LSU figures out how they stop opponents from putting up 40+ points, it's not gonna matter who's qb.

Maybe the avalanche doesn't start if Finley doesn't turn the ball over 3 times, but that was some ugly football in the second half.

It was rather homely even before halftime started.

Finley had a few freshman type turnovers no question. But I don’t think Brennan makes a difference in this game.

LSU has way bigger problems than who is starting at QB. The entire team took a nose dive, really disappointing....

Finley was not the problem. LSU didn't get the coaching they needed to field a real football team this year. And without getting the right coaches, we won't have any kind of competitive team for years to come.

Looks like Finley will have to be an emerging star at a different school. He entered the Transfer Portal. My guess is after Spring, he was told he's 3rd on the depth behind Brennan and and Johnson.

I still think he has a future, he has some intangibles that are rare in young QBs (hyper quick release)....we will see...
