What’s your must obscure, random Saints fact? (1 Viewer)

This is a little bit different and yet retains the same spirit behind the question. I sat on the 50 yard line, Saints side, on the wall for their first playoff victory and I caught a bottle of Gatorade that someone from the sideline that had thrown to us people after we won. They threw several and my dad got one as well.

Former Cowboys backup QB and coach Jason Garrett originally signed out of college with the Saints as an undrafted free agent. He spent 1989 and early 1990 on the practice squad before being released.

Before New Orleans had a team the NFL played an exhibition game here to see how it would work. They wanted to gauge turn out, infrastructure, things like that.

Black NFL players were turned away from hotels because they were still whites only and several were spit on and threatened in the streets.

The NFL said no way we would get a team. It’s literally a miracle we got one two years later.

2-time Super Bowl winner and Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson’s first game as an NFL head coach was a shutout loss (28-0) to the Saints.
After that game Rickey Jackson was in a car accident. The rumor was he “partied” a little too hard after the win. Doctors said he would miss 8 weeks of the season after surgery to his face. He was back in 2 weeks and played with his jaw wired and a special helmet and face mask.

We are the only NFL team to win & lose a game by the score of 62-7 (L-Falcons 1973; W-Colts 2011)
The season (1973) OJ Simpson rushed for over 2,000 yards, Saints were the only team to hold him to less than 100 yards (79)

Saints football started in the best way imaginable, with rookie John Gilliam returning the opening kickoff in their very first game for a touchdown.

It’s unimaginable that the team could blow a 25 point lead and lose in OT in the Super Bowl.
Oh, wait... that was the Falclowns. My apologies to the OP. :ezbill:

Seriously, here’s one:
The Saints’ team colors are black and gold because original (majority) owner, John Mecum, was an oil tycoon... and oil was often called: “BLACK GOLD.”

:gosaints:
P.S.- - To the OP: Good thread, breaux. Mods may want to make it a sticky in a week or two. :9:

One of my roommates a while back in 2014 matched with Orson Charles on a dating app back when he was on the practice squad. He wanted her to come spend the night after one day of chatting on the app so she blocked him.

And 300,000 claim they were there
