Sooo... Last week I was grabbing some stuff at Total Wine and drifted down the whiskey aisle for anything new and/or interesting. I asked the staff there when they expect to have something good and was pleasantly surprised to be told "tomorrow". Apparently, this store will hang on to their allocations of whiskey and drop them all on a Saturday. I couldn't find out what was allocated, but I made up my mind to get their early the next day regardless. I got there at 0600 for a 1000 store opening to find 10 other people there already. They started showing up at 0530. Having nothing else to do, I waited. Eventually, someone was allowed in to take a picture that was shared with others outside.

By the time I got to the table, I was able to grab a bottle of Eagle Rare and Nikka from the Barrel. The guy in front of me grabbed the last bottled of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and EH Taylor Small Batch. I ended up dropping back to the bourbon aisle to get a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel and Four Roses Single Barrel before leaving the store.

It was a bittersweet morning. I didn't get everything I wanted, but I did get some good stuff at MSRP and I picked up on a few other tidbits from the people in line. I'll bring an iPad next time and get there at 0500.

He did well to scoop up those two, but frankly, they are more rare than they should be. But there is also Garrison Brothers on the shelf - very tasty stuff from Texas.

The economics of bourbon escapes me. It's like they never heard of supply-and-demand. They make just a hundred bottles of wonderful stuff and folks will drive miles to line up and buy it for $50. The Elijahs and Taylors of the world (not to mention the Van Winkles) could triple their price and people would still buy the whole shelf in one day. They sure do it in Scotland, so why not in Kentucky?

I lol'd at the Garrison Bros because they had the same stuff sitting on the shelf.

I just can't get over how good Eagle Rare is for ~$30. Also, it's hard as hell to find. I try to buy a bottle when I spot one. I also got my dad hooked on it, so now when I see some, I have to grab 2 and they usually don't have 2. Sorry, Dad.

I'm curious. Are the laws still such that you can't order whiskey online? I've never tried and was wondering if there are shipping options?

Don’t think you can. I wish you could

I don't do cigars. I do like the auroma of some of them. But I can't smoke em. Never could get along with cigar or cigarette smoke.
