It only took 9 passes to remind Payton why 31 other teams passed on a bargain-basement Jameis.

Throw into triple coverage. That has been his history unfortunately. A shame, because he is really gifted physically. I just hope he can be reformatted.

Remember just a few weeks ago when Drew had a rough start and people called his career over?
Never a good idea to jump to conclusions on such small sample sizes (that goes for both JW& TH)
More than likely TH is getting the nod bc he’s had much more time with playbook and SP has had off seasons to develop TH wrinkles that a division opponent has not seen

While I agree with you in principle. There was nothing in Jameis's performance that is exactly encouraging. He forgot his role was to "Not lose the game".

Thank goodness the defender decided to bat the ball down in front of him rather than catch what would have been an interception for most defenders. A turn over then and a TD would have put them right back in the game.

To be fair you could have put up a video of Taysom standing like a statue with three players wide open until he took a sack
Almost any QB coming in due to a injury tends to look a little lost

Winston is supposed to be this 5 year veteran, 1st overall pick, Heisman winner. That's a lot more experience than even Teddy had so no I don't buy the deer in the headlights excuse in this case. Protect the ball and eat up the clock is bread and butter game management quarterbacking and Payton saw him almost muff it.

Exactly. Teddy’s first appearance when he took over from Drew reminded me of my opponent in a rare win in Madden multiplayer where he clearly put his controller down and walked away.

Teddy had started 29 games and had been benched with an injury and had not played for two years when he was called upon to replace Drew.

Jameis has 70 starts and there were no missing injury seasons between his last start and being called upon to replace Drew.

I'm going to say that I don't put anything negative against winston for last week. He came in and filled in for brees who was hurt. cold as ice. teddy didn't look any better against the rams last year. the only difference is we won this year.

We already analyzed that play. Only 1.5 players were open. But yeah he missed Sanders on a deep cross.

That can't be why he's not starting. Especially since Drew has threw a few headscratchers himself this season

No the reason T Hill is starting is simply bcuz of 🤑. They paid Hill far too much this off-season just to let him sit & not see if it wasn't a complete waste of time (and 🤑) tryna prep him to be an actual QB

Teddy inherited a game we were behind in, Jameis only needed to husband a comfortable lead. Plus, Teddy was a lot colder than Jameis, two years colder, and less experienced than Jameis.

I guess I sound negative but I'm only saying why I think they benched him for Taysom when everyone was certain Jameis would get the call.

Teddy had played the majority of four pre-season games about a month prior to the Rams game under the tutelage of the Saints coaching staff with a number of starters on the field. Plus he’d had about eight more months to learn the playbook. Winston had no such opportunity this year. It cuts both ways.

He made one bad decision and that’s why Taysom is starting?

No.

Winston did what he was asked to do. He managed and won the game (and yes that throw was bad).

But Payton is going with Taysom because he believes in Taysom. Troy Aikman said that Payton told them earlier this season before a game that, if Drew got hurt during a game, Jameis would replace him for THAT game, but the next week would be Taysom bc they would have a full week to install and prepare a Taysom-led offense.
