This why Jameis is not starting (1 Viewer)

He was late on his read. We are so use to Drew putting the ball in the air to MTs spot just before Mike cuts in. Jameis waited until the defense had already adjusted and they read his eyes. I’m honestly more comfortable with Taysom starting because I think he gives a better chance of keeping defenses honest because they know he can take off if he wants too.

It's amazing how some people just wants Winston to fail, despite the fact he's in a Saints uniform.

You can point to multiple games THIS SEASON where Drew made similar, dumb passes.

It only took 9 passes to remind Payton why 31 other teams passed on a bargain-basement Jameis.

If Taysom throws the ball 10 times I’d be really surprised if he doesn’t throw at least one hilariously bad pass. The reasons for him starting are 1) more time in the system, 2) he’s a beast RPO QB, and 3) at least some level of obligation by Payton.

I don’t think people want him to fail, we just have to be honest that he is undisciplined with the football and he doesn’t seem to have broken the habit yet. It would take Drew 5 seasons to equal the amount of turnovers Jameis had last year lol. If you count the dropped ints by the defenses playing the Bucs last year, Jameis would have easily thrown 40+ picks. You can’t ignore that simple because he puts on a Saints uniform

That can't be why he's not starting. Especially since Drew has threw a few headscratchers himself this season

No the reason T Hill is starting is simply bcuz of 🤑. They paid Hill far too much this off-season just to let him sit & not see if it wasn't a complete waste of time tryna prep him to be an actual QB

I'm sorry and I don't mean to be rude but that is nonsense. I've heard this from the pundits along with
  • Payton is just messing with em
  • The head office ordered Payton to play him
  • It's a provision in Hill's contract
  • Payton's ego or man-crush got the better of him
  • etc etc
Ockham's razor argues that the simplest explanation is the most likely. Payton thinks the team is more likely to win with Taysom than Jameis.

Yeah I’m definitely expecting some duds, but I think he has a greater upside. My biggest worry is he will try to do too much, that’s usually when he fumbles.

At 4 for four, he is 40% of the way there and no "hilariously bad passes" so far.

Let me be honest. I have zero clues how this will turn out today. I hope for the best and I'm braced for the worst. Like everyone I'm trying to wrap my head around the shocker that Taysom is the QB over the consensus choice of those who are supposed to know the game a lot better than I do. I think some posters watched the video and read my comment but didn't read the article that prompted this thread. The author of the article is much better at explaining why he thinks Taysom was the call.

Teddy had played the majority of four pre-season games about a month prior to the Rams game under the tutelage of the Saints coaching staff with a number of starters on the field. Plus he’d had about eight more months to learn the playbook. Winston had no such opportunity this year. It cuts both ways.

Good points. I would only add that Teddy was tasked with a come from behind against a solid team and Jameis was asked to manage a comfortable lead against a team that has been decimated by injuries. But you are right there are multiple sides to this.

I think Jameis is still Jameis but if you tone down half the mistakes and get the big arm rolling you can move a team and win. I think Payton thought he could do that. Maybe he's seeing he can't,I don't know, but I do know Taysom deserves a chance given how long he has been in the system. I believe that we'll see Jameis in the game many times today. I think we'll see Hill have trouble doing the QB thing when it comes to sliding and getting out of bounds and not trying for the extra 2 yards every play. I think we'll see some head scratching decisions by him. But like I said I see Jameis getting on the field and hitting on some designed plays to maximize his talent.

Hell Jameis might even start the first series.

He made one bad decision and that’s why Taysom is starting?

No.

Winston did what he was asked to do. He managed and won the game (and yes that throw was bad).

But Payton is going with Taysom because he believes in Taysom. Troy Aikman said that Payton told them earlier this season before a game that, if Drew got hurt during a game, Jameis would replace him for THAT game, but the next week would be Taysom bc they would have a full week to install and prepare a Taysom-led offense.
This makes the most sense, because Taysom spends so much time in meetings for other positions.

Well with all due respect aswell, ur take on JW's "almost INT" doesn't necessarily make much sense either 🤷🏾‍♂️

But whatever the reason Hill is starting today, I'll surely be praying he does well, bcuz I'd be lying to myself if I told u I don't expect an utter disaster

Winston's not starting because, unlike Bridgewater, he doesn't have enough snaps to be fluent in Payton's offense. Doesn't mean Winston will sit on the bench the entire game. He'll get some snaps too. And the Saints paid $21M to Hill to give him a shot at being Brees's replacement. This is in keeping with the plan going in to this season. Would like to see the Saints open with a pass play to keep ATL guessing, otherwise they're going to stuff the box against the run with impunity.

One thing we can agree on is this makes the game a lot more interesting.

Winston isn't playing because Winston is learning how to put it only where the receiver can catch it, and if you saw the game "the touch" to put it there just isnt there yet. Not to mention, you got a lot of bad Arians influence he could easily revert back to.
