Isn’t it amazing how Drew was lambasted for the better part of six weeks for not playing outside of himself by throwing deep balls just for aesthetics?! He was castigated over foregoing bombs for high percentage “dinking/dunking”. Never mind the fact that his mastery of that style kept our offense near the top of the league. Conversely, Mr. Covergirl was initially praised for still throwing vertically (albeit against trash defenses). Brady was lauded for still having a “live arm“.

Now, fast forward to the past three or four weeks. Brady can’t hit the broad side of the Superdome on those deep shots, yet he still keeps throwing up wounded ducks in hopes that he and A(nother) B(lowup) can recreate the Patriots 2007 2.0.

Suddenly, sports analysts are questioning why Arians has Tommy throwing deep. Why he hasn‘t modified the playbook to highlight what Tom does best: short and intermediate throws that move the chains. Out of nowhere it seems like air yards are over rated and precision passes that keep the offense on time and the defense on the field are the winning philosophy.

Gee, I wonder if a 40 year old QB could master such a system?!🤔 These “analysts” are a joke.

Since 2017 when allegedly it all came tumbling down for Drew Brees:

39-12 record (39-11 if you don't count Rams game he got injured the very 1st drive)
73.5% completion rate (66.6% pre 2017)
7.9 yards per attempt (his average was 7.5 entering the 2017 season)
100 TD, 20 Ints
5:1 TD:Int ratio (It was barely 2:1 entering 2017)
3.4% sack rate (his career average was 3.9%)
111.1 QB Rating (NFL best and much better than his career 96.3 entering 2017)

Wrong. Brees started throwing the ball beyond the LOS more in his last 3 games and that opened up sooo much more of the field for the offense. Had he continued with his early season play, I guarantee you the offense would have suffered from that as defenses would have clamped down even tighter. Yes, I like it when Brees stays in his lane but, every now and then, he has to get it up the field or else defenses will not respect anything past 10 yards.

Efficiency wins games. QB's that are efficient are the best QBs. That means moving the chains, not turning the ball over and not taking sacks.

It’s highly frustrating the inherent biases portrayed by the analysts this year. Makes them look like absolute fools. Don’t worry saints fans, this team is built for a super bowl run. Let them talk and eat their words at season end. Who dat baby!

Not sure about that.

His yards per attempt was 7.6 in the first 6 starts and only 6.7 in his last 3 starts. I'd have a hard time convincing someone be was effective at "opening up the offense" in these last 3 starts.

Fake news.

We were talking aboot air yards here, if we are talking about ypa we also have to include the fact that these few years the Saints has probably led the league in YAC. I believe we had over 1000 yards over the second place team one year. I soooo wish I find the site I saw that info, but as of right now, AK leads the second rated player by 200 yards in the YAC category and as team they have over 1300 YAC.

Its really simple, all the measured stats change on what makes Brady look better or less bad. If you've followed the nfl at all in the last 20 years you should know that. Hell they invented the tuck rule for him, the raiders, Gannon and tim brown should have been in that super bowl

In Chicago, we definitely didn't open up the field, in fact the Kamara 40 yard YAC play is the only reason Drew had a paltry 6.8 ypa, otherwise it would have been a dismal 6.0.

Brees definitely struggled to open up the field vs the 49ers. That entire first half was like pulling teeth. Luckily they gave us short fields in order to score.

That leaves the Bucs game. We had a little better downfield passing in that game but certainly still restrained.

I stand by my conclusion.

Honest question. Who really cares about air yards, dink and dunk passing, rushing yards, etc...? As long as whatever we do equates to wins. How many long pass attempts did tampa have Monday and what was the most important stat? A loss for them. I dont care if we win the superbowl 3 to nothing as long as we win. And the cherry on top is beating tom terrific

What are you whining about? Brady has struggled throwing deep so now you’re mad that analysts are saying he shouldn’t throw deep as much? I swear we are turning into the whiniest fan base in the league. Apparently everything is an insult against the Saints even if it had nothing to do with the Saints.

Dink and dunk works just fine as long as you don't fall behind in the 4th quarter. And overall, it shortens the field for the defense, which in turn makes it that much harder to move the ball.

First of all, you don’t have to remain in this thread since posts like these offend your delicate sensibilities. If highlighting the hypocrisy of the national sports media is whining then this entire board is often guilty. You can relax on deciding who can take issue with a sports narrative.

To say that the media hasn’t ridiculed Drew for the very same thing they now want Arians to have Brady do is disingenuous. Maybe if you hop up off your soapbox you’ll get a better view of what most of the fandom has been watching play out before us since Bountygate.

But we've seen Brees for 2 consecutive games (Carolina, Chicago) go down on a lengthy drive with hardly any time on the clock before half and dink and dunk his way all the way into the endzone. So amazingly Brees can score quickly even without being able to stretch the field.
