I really think Y'all should take a chill pill and wait for crucifying our promising "rookie QB"

Let's compare Taysoms QBR to some of Drew Breeses worst QB ratings the last couple of years (as per ESPN, don't know if they are comparable as they had T Hill at 33.8 QBR vs the Broncos). https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/2580/type/nfl/year/2015

2018 vs CAR = 24.3
2018 vs DAL = 17.9
2018 vs NYG = 33.6
2017 vs NE = 37.3
2016 bs Bucs = 26.9
2106 vs ATL = 38.3
2015 vs TEX = 25.5
2015 vs PHI = 22.0
2015 vs. Bucs = 22.7

Brees has had on avg more than 1+ WORSE GAMES (or very close to) per season, than Taysom Hill had Sunday!! Brees lost most of these games, Taysom didn't. Brees is a bonified hall of famer. So chill please!

I see your point but the part about winning the game you should forget about and never use it again as part of the argument to prove this point.

This game the saints won by default, the opponent had no QB.
Good point and I totally agree with you in general. But I never said Taysom won that game, only that he didn't lose it for us (which could have happened with a lesser QB). There is a difference. Taysom was a game manager and did well given the special circumstances IMHO

I agree with not overreacting after 2 games. Problem with this comparison is that Brees has proven that he is one of the greatest Qbs of all time so we knew these bad games were just anomalies. We don't know that with Hill until we see a few more games.

Agree in theory OP
The problem is that outside of Murray’s big game, this is really the only talking point
Overreaction is baked in
Well the defense played outstanding again. What about crediting the stout and confusing Broncos defense? They got Tua benched and he is a 1st round draft franchise QB

Brees has played over 200 games on the Saints...and only has 5 games with QBR under 33. That’s less than a 2.5% chance of a game like that. Right now Hill is sitting at 50%. It’s incredible difficult to have a QBR that low while winning in a blowout. Not sure how the Saints winning makes Hills QBR look better.

Brees didn’t start his career that great at the chargers. He was benched multiple times and then let go. Hill may need time to develop as well.

I haven't heard this enough. The Broncos didn't have a QB and the Saints D was expected to do what they did and I'm glad for once they didn't allow some no name guy go crazy on us. However, the Broncos defense was the same and still gave up 31 to Taysom Hill and our run heavy offensive game plan. That right there is what surprised me the most. We scored a lot more than I thought we would.

Good point. Valid argument. My counter argument with that is Taysom has 3 years with the organization and went through 3 training camp. Played almost all the games, granted it wasn't all at the quarterback position. But you would think he would pick things up by now.

We have mixed emotions because Taysom didn't pass the eye test yesterday even though the Saints won. Let's not kid ourselves here., he just managed the game. Nothing was spectacular

I understand your point, and I don't completely disagree, but you are using QBR here.

ESPN came up with QBR and it heavily skews towards/favors running QB stats. I have posted examples before of one of Brees' better seasons only ranking slightly higher than Tebow's season where he completed 50% of his passes and only threw for like 1 td more than ints.

So QBR will always favor a good Taysom Hill performance over a good Brees performance, and will make an average-bad game from someone like Brees look A LOT worse.

If you look at the traditional passer rating (not saying that is perfect either, but doesn't skew as heavily towards running stats), then Taysom's rating from yesterday was a 43.2.

Brees has only had a passer rating under 60 three times in the past 12 years (and one of those was the Rams game when he only threw 5 passes).

If you compare some of Brees' bad QBR games that you listed to his passer rating from those same games, it looks a lot different.

-Like the Giants game from 2018 you listed ranked Brees lower than Taysom (yesterday) in QBR, but Brees completed 56.25% of his passes for 217 yards (almost 7 yards per attempt compared to Taysom's 4.9 yesterday) and no turnovers. Not what we expect from Brees (even in a blowout win, which that was) but hardly the train-wreck his QBR number makes it look like.

-You also listed the New England game from 2017 as a "worse (or "close to") game as Taysom had yesterday. In that game, Brees completed 60% of his passes for 356 yards (just under 8 yds/att), 2 tds, no turnovers, and took 1 sack. That looks licke a much better game to me.

-You listed Atlanta in 2016. I am not sure which specific game you meant, but he had a passer rating of 97.5 in one of the games and 84.6 in the other.

-Again with the Bucs in 2015, he had passer ratings of 113 and 80.5. In the latter game, he completed 63% of his passes for 255 yards (6.7 yds/att), 1 td & 1 int. Absolutely a subpar game, especially for Brees, but I wouldn't say it was miles worse than Taysom's game yesterday (as the QBR numbers would suggest).

-And in the Philly game you listed from 2015, Brees completed 61% of his passes for 335 yards (just under 8 yds/att) 2 tds & 1 turnover. His passer rating in that game was 90.7 but his QBR was about 12 points under Taysom's QBR from yesterday).

Again, I understand the point you are making, but I don't think pulling some of Brees' lower QBR games actually offers a very good comparison between the way the two players look as passers (in good games or bad).

That’s exactly how the chargers felt about Brees. This was only hills second start, and they won the game handily. Do you remember Brees at San Diego? It took him a few seasons to develop. He was behind Flutie much of the time, and didn’t do much when given the chance.
