I just finished off a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel. It's like regular Jameson turned up to 11. I must have another bottle.

I also bought Redbreast 12 (Irish whiskey). I am liking that one, too.

I got a bottle of Michter's Rye a week ago because I've never had rye and some people who know better said it's a good place to start. So far it's ok. I wanted to get a bottle of Angel's Envy rye, but at $60.00 a bottle, I thought I'd wait.
I love Sazarac Rye. Made by Buffalo trace and I either drink it neat or make a Sazarac.

I don't normally buy products owned or endorsed by celebrates, but Conner McGregor's Proper Twelve is a really smooth Irish whiskey. Two other good Irish whiskeys are Dublaner and Writer's Tears.

I broke down and bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue when the Saints went to the Super Bowl and planned to crack it open if we won, but I popped it open by halftime. If we get back, I'm buying a bottle of McCallan 18, that goes for around $250.

On a side note, a buddy and I went to an ABC (the Virginia owned liqueur stores up here) and saw a bottle of McCallan 25. The price was XXXX, so if you have to ask....

Yeah, Virginia is weird. The state owns the liqueur stores here. The employees are state employees.

Writers Tears is good stuff. I also like Teelings for an inexpensive Irish whiskey. Its nice and malty then finished in rum casks

Honestly I have gotten to where I won't touch McCallan because the price has gotten to high. There are plenty other very good speyside scotches

I have been working on a Manhattan and Old Fashioned recipes. I struggled with the sugar vs. simple syrup and club soda. Any suggestions?
I like to pre-batch Old Fashioneds. I'll remove 4 oz from a 750ml bottle of rye or bourbon and add 2oz of simple syrup, 1oz maraschino cherry syrup and 1oz bitters. I don't get too expensive with the whiskey, so grab a bottle of WT101, Overholt, Grandad 114, JD Rye, Evan Williams, HH BIB, Early Times BIB, etc. Sometimes I leave out the cherry juice and up the simple syrup by 1oz.

I also make my own simple syrup w, raw cane sugar.

I’m getting into Islay Scotch at the moment, and I’ve tried Laphroig 10 and Ardbeg 10. Holy smoke! It’s like drinking a campfire.
I grabbed a bottle of Ardbeg Wee Beastie recently. I highly recommend you find a bottle if you enjoy the Ardbeg 10. It's definitely an acquired taste, but very interesting for such a young whisky.

I would recommend wee beastie also, if you are in the Metairie area, zappardo's has it for $37, I think total wine was $45.

Grabbed one today as well and I'm looking forward to opening it tomorrow.

Do you use water or club soda?
The recipe Iam using calls for 1.5 oz of booze with 2 dashes of bitters?
Do you put your pre-batch'd in the fridge or???

Instead of water or club soda, I do simple syrup, too.

Nope. No water or club soda. I'll pour a couple ounces from the bottle into a glass with a fat ice cube and maybe stir it well if I use a higher proof whiskey like WT101 or the Grandad 114. If you're drinking it without ice, then maybe a splash of water would be good. I do not refrigerate, but I can't imagine that would be a problem. You can class it up with a flip-top glass bottle or you can drag it off to the campfire in a 32oz Camelbak.

I like bitters, so if I'm making a single I'll use maybe 4 dashes of angostura bitters and maybe a couple dashes of orange bitters in lieu of a garnish if I feel fancy.

Thank you MLU, I will give that a try. It seems like it would be easier and more consistent to make a batch instead of the single drink. My in-laws are coming to the house for the weekend I might need it.

New Hampshire, Vermont, and Pennsylvania also own the liquor stores. There are likely other states that do the same.
